Disable emoji delivery via cdn.jsdelivr.net

Post by zorni »

Due to the upcoming GDPR I'd like to reduce the connections to external domains / providers. phpBB automatically converts Emojis and uses EmojiOne which are delivered via cdn.jsdelivr.net. (Ergo user data is collected/transmitted)
I couldn't find an option to disable Emojis globally.

So the question is, what can you do to get rid of it? In a blog we had this e.g. with Google Webfonts - we have redesigned it so that we now retrieve them locally. That might also be a possibility here, even if only an undesired one.

I think it would be best to disable this feature with an option. Has someone ever dealt with it or could provide a tutorial how to do it?

I cannot see what rendering a emoji has to do with GDPR - there is no personal identifiable data involved

That's not the question and I'm sure that the viewers IP adress is transferred. IP adresses are personal data. So if those emojis are used, at least a part of the privacy policy has to point it out.

You know this for a fact or is it a hunch?

Can you show me in the code where a "user's" IP address is being transmitted - all I can see is something being retrived, but I may have missed something.

I don't understand why there is any departure from the real questions.
The questions were: Is there a way to deliver the Emojis locally (without connectiong to CDNs), or to deactivate them totally?

Because you original request is flawed in its assumptions.

All things are possible, but not all things are feasible

I'm yet to be convinced by anyone that any real personal information can be gleaned from an IP address, my IP address changed just after a power outage on Tuesday.

I would agree but that could change when/if ipv6 is rolled out.

Thanks, reading about that now. Strangely enough, I just checked mine and it nearly got the town right, well, it was in the right county.
