Comment post and page refresh

Post by ericnyamu1 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 7:29 am

hey,

is there an extension that you can install in phpbb that will make posting replies (or even through quick reply) without refreshing the page.i think from a ux perspective this will be very nice and i think most users want it.

thanks

Not sure what you mean. Whenever I post a reply either by using reply or quick reply the post appears on the page after hitting submit.

Ajax.
Not sure you would gain anything. How would you handle posts that have been made whilst you were submitting your post?

Doing this properly -for instance taking other users posting at the same time into account like David63 mentioned- will prove quite a headache. I have investigated that for my Live Topic Update extension and chose not to ajaxify that since there isn't a proper way to do it from an extension. It would require building almost a copy of viewtopic.php into the extension, handling all notifications, permissions, events, etc.

Also, a page refresh isn't the end of the world IMO.
My extensions: Simple CMS, Feed post bot, Avatar Resize, Modbreak, Magic OGP, Live topic update and Modern Quote
Newest: Quoted Where + anonymize

Like my work? Buy me a coffee to keep it coming. :ugeek:

Get last post id on page & check if max posts per page is hit, check db for last post id of topic, if they match then ajax, if not then page refresh?

Could be an ok solution to semi ajaxify it, would get around rebuilding viewtopic.php.

I believe mybb has some sort of ajax quick reply, it's kinda nice. iirc it's actually the method I described above.

I'm not familiair with myBB but if any package offers this as a core feature, they would have made a way better approach by just making a descent controller for this.
