Popup for smileys

Post by Hartenheer » Sun Sep 23, 2018 9:56 am

Is there an extension to have the smilies appear as a popup?

I've seen the slider

Seems easier to use a popup.

What happens if the user has a popup blocker?

Then use the option to exempt this site.

The same problem with the ads.
PHPbb does have an ad extension by default
Adblock is the most used program

That extenstion is even official from PHPbb.

So do not see the problem to turn off the popup setting for the site

not sure what you are saying. phpbb does not have a ad extension by default. if you mean vigilink that does not put ads on your pages. it does not produce any popups etc. and I don't believe an ad blocker will stop it from working.

Hi Robert,

Excuse my English, but in phpBB Official Extensions is really Advertisement Management.

That was not a problem to develop
Many, many people have an adblock

And you can not stick to the old method, but look at the competitors. Look ahead
See what a success is, and make it better, otherwise you will walk behind
That is the only way to survive

It works fine for FB and Skye, so why not for PHPbb

you are correct. I had not noticed that they made the advertising management extension an official phpbb extension.

Isn't dropdown (like notifications) a better solution? Well.. modal seems nice as well.

Pop-ups sucks.
I use this: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... croll_box/
I also use that extension.
Why are pop ups bad?

Skype and Facebook use it and it works fine
If it were standard, the menu for the writing block can be found there.
Clearer than those icons

Then use the option to exempt this site.
That would likely be most every user that goes to your site then. How would you know they're using a blocker?

They're annoying as hell serving up detritus that's not been asked for hence people block them, I count them as spam.

Sorry, that's the language barrier, you understand it differently than I mean
can not explain it otherwise. to explain

That is your personal feeling

It is a pity that personal feeling is being looked at.
And not to the consumer who really can not do anything anymore through Facebook.

A drop down box named 'more smiies' that the user chooses to click would work much better imo.

They don't really use pop ups in the traditional sense of the word.

Pop ups are usually understood to be a whole small separate browser window that is launched. Every time you reply to a topic your users would be closing that window or blocking it from showing.

Skype and FB use javascript type windows that show up within the window you're in as a sort of overlay. That's totally different.
