Why this topic is locked?

Post by kamaleon » Thu Nov 08, 2018 10:34 pm

Hello,

I see a lot of topics mentioning the QTE extension

viewtopic.php?f=456&t=2218556

But the topic is locked.

Does it work with the current version of phpbb? I installed it and there is no admin... And it does not seem to work.

So it does not work?

Thanks

The extension author himself declared the extension as abandoned and locked the topic himself.
So I assume he doesn't want to continue development, unfortunately.

Contact the author and ask him to continue development and/or support, or find someone who is willing to take over the extension (perhaps yourself?)

How to revive that amazing extension?

What are the options?
  1. Persuade the author to continue with the extension.
  2. Find somebody else to take over the extension.
  3. Complete the extension yourself.
  4. Find an alternative extension.
  5. Forget about using this extension.

Most people in here are against PMs, but I will try my luck.

If not, then will hire a dev... As I am not a coder.

The extension still works with current phpBB version 3.2.3.

I had to do some research to find how it works.

This is just to make life easier for others.

After you enable the extension, to configure it, you have to go to Posting > Topic attributes.

Configure also the forum permissions for the QTE in Permissions > Forum Permissions.

It's important to note that, whilst the extension may work with phpBB 3.2.3, it has been abandoned by its author and there is no support for it.
This also means if future updates of phpBB cause it to stop working, it won't be updated/fixed unless somebody takes over its development.

Take note of the warning in that forum:

I was immensely fond of the 3.0 modification and am a little surprised a 3.x extension similar hasn't been put into development, so hopefully we'll see one soon :)

Well since you are learning to code, you could take that extension and practice with it for the next update of phpbb :)

Quick question if you don't mind.

Why do a lot if not all topics in the extension forums have a post called "reserved"?

usuallly it is the extension author that reserves that first reply for updates or other posts that need to be at the top for discussion about the ext.

I see. Kinda figured, but then I noticed that post never changes through the progress of the extension and I didn't think one could go back and edit a post at a certain time frame.
