Every account should be authorized with SMS

Post by EXEMOK »

Looking for extension that every account should be authorized with SMS.

PS. Why we need it - belarussian new law told that every poster on forum should give his phone number and enter code from SMS. Only after that he could post anything on forums.

say here its not written within the law :?
Deputy Minister of Information Pavel Liohki suggested that the identification of commentators online might come via text messages but it is not actually written within the law.

It was later some other comments, that user can be authorized using emails or social networks, but in this case the owner of web-sites should be responsible for all messages users will post on forums.

So, the only solution is sms.

No sms - no forums.

I have to say that nothing a government can come up with would surprise me but this one just sounds like someone's paranoia nightmare.

I can't really believe this could possibly be a law the way you describe it.

I think you need to go back and do some research on this law if it is even a law.

So, please just believe that there are strange countries that could invent this nightmare. But I need to do it on my forum. Our law department is sure that all users should have SMS approved phone number in their profile.

PS. If somebody could give me an advice which extension take as an example to start development - I would be really grateful. Last time I've looked into PHPBB sources was 3 years ago.

I will admit that it is some time since I last looked at sending SMS messages from a website but unless something has changed the problem is that you have to use some form of gateway to get the message into the mobile network and, again when I was looking, none of these gateways were free - in fact some were quite expensive.

What gateway do you use?

In Sweden we use MOSMS for example (only works within Sweden).
But we use it the other way around.
I use it for the users to self-validate theire own accounts. The registration process asks for the country of the user. As soon as the user selects Sweden the forum generates a code that the user can send to a dedicated number, triggering the API.

So if the user is in a hurry and does not want to wait for the admin to activate the account they can activate the account by themselves via SMS.

I understand that the OP needs to send an SMS instead of receiving, but that service is also available at MOSMS.

Luckily you didn't apply his reasoning tp phpBB.
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
