Credibility

Post by Holger » Thu May 02, 2019 7:20 am

Hi,

I would need some kind of Credibility Ext.
I am running a forum (90K+ users, 1M+ posts) where people asks technical questions.
All the time the forum has been online (15+ years) users have been discussing on how to ensure that the asker gets the correct answers and does not try to implement faulty/shady instructions.
So I would like to have the possibility to let users mark answers as credible or not so credible and somehow add up the mark ups, maybe with colors from red to green or something.
... hard to explain.

Has anyone an idea?

/Holger

A lot will depend on how much importance you want to place on the credibility score.

Do you want a simple topic scoring system as in Stackoverflow? Do you want something more complex such as that used here with the ideas forum where an algorithm weights pluses against minuses?

You could have a simple poll option on topics with "Good/Bad" options.

The problem with any of these systems is that they can be affected by someone with a grudge who marks everything down - and should more notice be taken of negatives than positives, or the other way round?

For this to be of any benefit in a technical environment I think that you need to be very clear on how you want it to work and also how to control who is able to vote on each issue.

You could just do it a little bit like we have here. Make a group and call it something suitable (Tech Guru or something) and make a rank like that too and then put the regular reliable prolific posters in it so that people can see they're the most knowledgeable.

Hi and thank you.
Stackoverflows system is not that simple and I love the way it works
https://stackoverflow.com/help/privileges/vote-up
https://stackoverflow.com/help/privileges/vote-down
On a per forum basis this would be perfect.

The Ideas system is more voting for topics, I would need voting for posts.

KevC, yes that would be possible, but I want to avoid that someone accuses me/us to promote users based on my own opinion.

Then you say it's not your own opinion. It's the Teams opinion and based on the 'thanks' they get for their replies :)
