Disclaimer on each post

Post by pearlchan »

How would one run a disclaimer across the bottom of every posting:
"Disclaimer: this post and the subject matter and contents thereof - text, media, or otherwise - do not necessarily reflect the views of the [name of site/domain here] administration." :?:
Thanks in advance for any pointers.

To do it on every post, which personally I think is "overkill", you would need an extenstion.

There is the Forum Disclaimer extension that will put what you want at the bottom of the forum.

You'd need to request an extension.

It seems a little bit of overkill to put it on every post. If it's in the site T&Cs and/or you put it in the site rules and regs, or even the forum rules box at the top of the forum, that should suffice.

If you wanted to do it after each post open styles/prosilver/templates/viewtopic_body.html

find:

Code: Select all

<!-- END postrow -->
Before Add:

Code: Select all

<p>Your disclaimer</p>
Purge the cache after uploading edited file.

Not sure if that makes sense, if I was going to do this I add it at bottom of page. You can can do that by editing overall_footer.html

Which is exactly what my extension does - but in a controlled way

That's an understatement 8-)

Displaying such a clause in each post would make more sense if it would mention ... the views of the poster (but then again the poster wrote it ;) )
We should embrace problems, without which there wouldn't be any solutions.

Could you clarify? What doesn't make sense?
The poster/user is the person who is saying what they want to say.
The Admin is saying "Not my responsibility," whatever the user is writing.
the domain Forum will be a Platform not Publisher..
The owner of the Board is not accepting liability for anything the user says.
The legal action, if such occurs, must be taken against the user, not the Board.
Maybe familiarize yourself with the legal issues involved in Free Speech USA?

If it's my own post and I'm the owner, yes; it probably could be modified?
But not necessarily. In my "hat" as user, I would be completely responsible. Disclaimer wouldn't matter.

What he is saying is displaying it after every post is a bit much. A single disclaimer at the top or bottom should suffice, even a link to the TOS with disclaimer should suffice.

Generally speaking if someone is using your service for illegal activity and you are aware of it you can't just say it wasn't me. For example you can't have a site encouraging and hosting copyrighted material just because some anonymous poster uploaded it.
