New Topic as Link

I saw that this perhaps was developed some years ago as a MOD, but couldn't seem to find any new versions.

I'm simply (or not so) wanting to post a topic as a link. I'd need to be able set the "topic type" as well so that the link will be positioned where I want and can be identified in the list of topics (similar to a Poll). Does anyone know of something that has been developed?

On the possibility of using shadow topics, if that comes to mind as a possible workaround, the problem is a shadow topic redirect will not retain its topic type. In other words, if I move a topic that has been categorized as "Sticky," and leave a shadow topic behind, the shadow topic link's "topic type" will change to "Normal." That's a problem.

So I would like to request an extension that would somehow give the Admin the option to post a link in place of a topic. I would still need to be able to set the "topic type" of the link so that it would be correctly positioned in my sub-forum. I can imagine a similar workflow to posting a poll i.e. click on the tab "Poll creation" but that is just a thought. Topic "Options" might be a better and more intuitive interface choice.

Just thought I'd follow up on this. I think this would be a useful feature for a few reasons. What I would like to do is be able to link to other topics within my forum, so as to help prevent the maintenance of duplicate or similar topics that may span the sub-forums that I have. I can see it also being useful in an advertising/marketing context...linking to specific advertising pages if you are looking to sell ad space. My purpose is for education purposes and helping my students more easily navigate course material.

Beautiful work. Thanks 3Di. PHPBB has just taken another step forward with some very useful functionality. Sometimes I just want to be able to post a link instead of a topic. Very useful.
