topic shortcuts

I've seen in other forum software ways to post shortcuts to other topics/posts. For example, Instead of inserting the entire URL, you would just use a short code like "topic:2243" , and it would automatically populate with the text "Topic: The title of the topic" and it would be hyperlinked. Does phpBB do this, and if not, do extensions exist?

Not a phpBB extension but many of my board members use Create Link - Chrome Web Store or the Firefox addon Make Link (I don't use Firefox, so the actual addon name may have changed).

Generally details about these extensions/add-ons get posted somewhere on the board as 'useful tips, pro tips, etc.' To use it, while reading a topic (or post), you select some text, i.e. the topic title, right click, select Create link and then select the BBCode URL format, which I've coded as

Code: Select all

[url=%url%]%text%[/url]

, then paste it. It is way simpler than it sounds, I can do it much faster than it took to type the instructions.

It should be. just test it. Install the Ext for chrome and do it as mentioned here:

oh . I don't want a solution that depends on browser extensions. It has to be server side only.

none of these extensions provide url shortcuts like I'm looking for.

- I checked the dmzx forum, and he doesn't have it either.
- 'prime links' only seems to add formatting.
- 'Local URL To Text' is good for replacing the text (however it doesn't work for forum sections for some reason)

how come in this post, you only entered viewtopic.php?p... , without the domain, and it was hyperlinked. Is that an extension too?
