Re: [DEV] Portal Extension for phpBB 3.1.x

Post by carlospopo » Mon Dec 07, 2015 5:37 pm

Hi Mike,

I'm creating this thread because I'm sure lots of people have the same question.

How I make the Portal the landing page of the site. I've tried adding the line "DirectoryIndex app.php/portal index.php index.html index.htm" at the top of the .htaccess but doesn't work properly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I gather there are quite a few ways to do this but I don't remember which was the most effective..
The best method should be through the .htaccess but I'm not sure what the code is now that we use phpBB 3.1...

I will have to ask the dev guys as I'm not sure...

I do intend to get it through the validation but the real world has demanded all my spare time... I am looking for one or more with phpBB 3.1 experience to assist in development to help speed up things but so far nothing...

Assume you mean the block with the link images (as there's also a links menu)... I have the code complete but forgot to add it... as soon as I get some free time...

Mike
Mike, did you ever get around to adding the code for the ads block (the one with scrolling images)?

thanks,

Brian

I installed this in 3.1.7-pl1, but I have two issues.

1. None of the centre blocks is showing up. "Welcome" and "Announcements" even return a php error: Call to a member function assign_block_vars() on a non-object...
2. I can't seem to find a "portal" page. The forum/portal link in the Board Navigation leads to a 404 error.

It's a clean install, on prosilver. My only other extension right now is WYSIWYG BBCode Editor.
______

EDIT: I figured out it's in /forum/app.php/portal, and the centre blocks work properly in there. Although the news block appears to be empty.

I'd like to put this in my root path, but I'm not sure how to setup .htaccess with app.php.

@Brian, I haven't done anything on that yet... ask again later...

@Storm Kyleis, did you download from my github repo?

Yes.

(I won't use this right away, but I'll be following the development. No hurry.)

Test with 3.1.7-pl1

If I use routes /phpBB3/app.php/portal portal page works ok,
but home link Portal and link Portal in menu lead to /phpBB3/portal and I get this message:

Code: Select all

The requested URL /phpBB3/portal/ was not found on this server.
What am I missing, or what I do wrong?

Sorry for my poor English :(

The only issue I've ever seen with the portal was this path issue... It appears to be system related (OS version type)...

There have been no problems installing to Windows Servers... there are are some issues with some Linux servers but not with all of them... that's what makes it difficult to track down...

I'll be testing a few Linux installs soon...if I can resolve any of the path issues I will post back...

If URL redirect isn't set up correctly, that's what you'll get. Plus, you have to change your htaccess file to reflect the right page.

Any chance of adding an option that allows administrators or group of users with permissions to send topics to be displayed in the portal (specific topics)

Example:

Foro hardware en general, armado de pc gamers - servidores, guías, ayuda de reparación y más.

@random_rodder, this one has bugged me for some time... Some installs work perfectly while others have this issue... It's probably my code which needs updating... This will be my first priority when I'm back coding (illness keeps me away from the keyboard atm)...

@wowmatu, I like the idea, will see what I can do but as I said above, I'm resting the little grey cells for a while...

Mike

PS, sorry for the delay in responding, I rely on email notifications of PM's and I'm not getting them form phpBB...
