That's not entirely true. If I'm not mistaken, a difference is made between two types of cookies; functional cookies and non-functional cookies. You can place functional cookies on your website without any further notice. However, for non-functional cookies you'll have to ask permission.

Functional cookies are cookies used for a session-id, marking topics as read, and saving other information that are needed to serve the user.
Non-functional cookies are things like tracking cookies, e.g. cookies that do not directly contribute to serving the user, and are primarily meant to provide information to companies.

It could also be that this was the dutch-specific setup, but as the dutch setup was supposed to be far more restrictive than the european norm, I guess this also holds for most of europe.

You are not mistaken :)
A webshop for example does not have to alert for cookies, needed to support the webshop functionality.
As soon as the same webshop is using (for example) Google Analytics, they have to inform the visitor, and a cookie wall is forbidden a.f.a.i.k.

Got this :

Code: Select all

[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file [ROOT]/ext/david63/cookiepolicy/event/listener.php on line 145: fsockopen(): unable to connect to www.ip-api.com:80 (Connection refused)
Does it mean my webhost IP is blacklisted ?

No - it means that the extension could not connect to the server used for checking IP addresses

Same error from another extension :/

Have asked the website if they blacklisted my webhost.
Because I can connect to them @home.

Sorry - I have moved the git repository as it has been repacked in preparation for submission.

I will update the link in the OP

Getting this error when editing signature and I have seen it in other places too:

Code: Select all

Warning: file_exists(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(./../theme/cookie.css) is not within the allowed path(s): (/var/www/vhosts/phpbb3bbcodes.com/httpdocs/:/tmp/) in /var/www/vhosts/phpbb3bbcodes.com/httpdocs/cache/twig/94/ee/5e72167ee57fcb01731059956efc.php on line 28
You need to change this in overall_header_head_append.html

Code: Select all

<!-- INCLUDECSS ../theme/cookie.css -->

to

Code: Select all

<!-- INCLUDECSS @david63_cookiepolicy/../theme/cookie.css -->

EDIT:
You probably need to correct the js path too.

I figured out how to enable the box on all pages.
Rename index_body_stat_blocks_after.html to overall_footer_page_body_after.html

Locked
