I think I got a clue already what is going on.
I closed a big part of the forum for guests, only 3 topics remained open.
Those 3 are the url's that are created in sitemap the rest are not cached anymore.
So the extension only works correct when the forum is completely available for guests.
Is there a way to solve this?

Hi,

I noticed you said in the description:
On the servers with "millions of posts" or low performance it will probably fail due to "server overload". In the future I will try to fix it if possible
Could I propose that the site map would be split into different files? Google accepts big maps splits into multiple files. An easy way would be to add a parameter with the id of a forum, and would create the site map for this forum and sub-forum only (inclusion of the sub-forums could also be a parameter).
Sorry, I've tried the extension and it's already splitting files if needed.

Thanks for the extension! It works like a charm for me, and the sitemap is accepted by google webmaster tools.

Could I propose an enhancement?

That would be nice if you could provide a way to add a few fixed urls:
Either we could type them all in a text box, or use a file on the server, and they would be merged with the main sitemap, or we could just provide a separate sitemap file and the extension would create a split file with the generated one and the fixed one.

Does that sound feasible?

Thanks

[BETA] phpBB3 SEO Sitemap

Post by trehber » Mon Jul 20, 2015 10:52 pm

I have installed 1.0.4 recently. Setup is easy but when i click /sitemap.xml, this is what i get.

SQL ERROR [ mssql ]

Column 'pbb_pforums.forum_type' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.
Column '%.*ls.%.*ls' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause. [8120]

after contacting my host, i was told that the type of data in "pbb_pforums.forum_type" is "integer" although the process in "int" field is trying to match with "ls".

Please forgive my translation, as i simply translated the written colloquial email.

What can i do?

I'm wondering the same. I'd still like all the 'Member only' sections of my site to appear in the sitemap. Any little tweaks to get this working? :)

After all we do have the 'Excluded forums' option in the Ext acp if we don't want to include certain forums.

if a forum is "members only" then why would you want it in the sitemap?

if the sitemap is availabe to visitors then you would not want them to be able to see those forums.

if the sitemap is only for SEO then you would not want the search engines to see those forums either.
the point of a sitemap is to make it easier for readers to find and read forums/topics they are interested in.
including the search engines.

That's the point. Google now can't see many links within the sitemap. I do want the links/forums listed within the sitemap for indexing, I just use 'member only' forums to entice registering.

The forums should be indexed/visible to search engines...(Which they are via permissions!)
Then when a guest visits one of those forums via said search engine, they are presented with the 'Register/Sign in' message.

Like I say, within the acp of this extension we have the option to exclude forums anyway.

EDIT: Argh! Why can we still not add attachments within this forum? :!:

A little site note:

There won't be a file named sitemap.xml located in your root directory of your forum. BUT you will get it if you got to this address: http://hifikabin.me.uk/sitemap.xml

So thats why I couldn't find it. I just assumed there would be a file in the root.

Thanks
Like a lot of other people here has said, I have this installed and working fine. But no sitemap file in my root or anywhere else. I do have the online version, but when I try to submit it to google it says no sitemap found. How do i get a actual .mxl file in my root?

Yes, I have that. But what do I do with it? When I try to submit to Google it says no sitemap found :(

Assuming that the sitemap opens when the link is clicked, you paste sitemap.xmlinto Google Webmaster Tools and test

imgurl

If it passes the test, then paste it in again and submit sitemap

Do any of you guys know the upper limit that this sitemap can generate before it starts to fail to load? I'm not too worried since I'm sure my hosting provider has good hardware, I'm just curious incase any community takes off and all of the sudden the sitemap won't work anymore.
