[ABD] Mobile phpBB 3.1

Post by rickey29 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 2:53 am

Description
Mobile phpBB 3.1 (MphpBB31) is a mobile-friendly phpBB 3.1 theme.

It only provides essential mobile related functions, it does not support all phpBB 3.1 features.

o.O not working.

And... what is the purpose ? phB 3.1 is responsive so it already provides nearly full mobile support...

Seems to have a clean feel than the Prosilver and its similar types... less crowded making it easier to navigate. I only tested on demo page. I would say probably just a personal preference of board owners.

So is this a style, or an extension?

Hello,

Could you check if there is any PHP error log within your system? If you did not install the module correctly, you can not get the mobile-friendly style. If so, please update the code according to the error log and my readme file installation section.

If you still get the problem, please PM your web site URL, I will try to help.

My module is dedicated on mobile-friendly solution. It decreases the development cost since it skips all the desktop issues. It is based on a mobile theme framework: jQuery Mobile: http://jquerymobile.com/ , which provides more powerful and flexible functions.

There are some mobile-friendly theme frameworks appeared recently: http://onsen.io/ , http://goratchet.com/ , http://topcoat.io/ , http://heartcss.org/ , http://ionicframework.com/ . If more users are interesting in this solution, I will add more themes into my package.

Any comments are welcome.

Hi there,

From end users' view point, my module is a style. While, from development view point, it is a extension. It includes both .html files for template and .php files for mobile device detection and redirection. When I submit this package to "Customisation Database", the moderator asks me to use "Extensions" as the type, not "Styles".

If I understand from your Github correctly then this requires file edits? If so that is not allowed in 3.1 nor preferred by admins now as that is the new advantage of 3.1.

If the style could be considered standalone and work fine without file edits however then you could theoretically use the style itself in conjunction with this Extension viewtopic.php?f=456&t=2284181

Hi Sshadow,

Let me repeat your suggestion. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

You suggest I separate the module into two parts: (1) one is for mobile device detection and redirection; (2) the other is for mobile-friend theme(s). Since the second one is only a Style, which needs not edit file(s), it will be easy to accept by users.

Thanks a lot. I will remember this suggestion. I will do this improvement later.

I'm using an iPod. Half the screen is black because it's below the footer. :/

Hi advocatus,

I am sorry I did not do any testing on iPod. I only test the theme on iPhone 4S, 5, iPad and Android. I suspect your web browser did not download the theme .css and/or .js file(s) completely, but I am not sure. Could you redo the testing from another network environment, or from another mobile device?

Thanks for your help.

It looks a bit bulky to me when I fake my useragent.

When I access through my phone it seems too empty. I see mostly black and white only. I do know my phone can process pages well, I've tried on the dev forum ( http://area51.phpbb.com ).
