I've only just started using WP.
Do I have this correct?
If I have a WP site at Example.com, when people post on my PHPBB board at OtherExample.com then the posts will appear at the WP site?
Is that what this does?
There is 2 extensions, one for WP, and one for phpbb
With the 2 extensions, you can share the users from phpbb to WP
With the WP extension, you can publish an article or a page to a specific forum, you can also display some informations regarding the forum as tehre is multiples widgets available (connected user, lasts posts, etc)
With the phpbb extension, you cannot do much more than sharing the users atm.
To asnwer simply : your use case is not done (yet?), but the opposite is.
Would we be able to put like a recent topics section on our wordpress site?
As a widget, yes. As a page (1 topic = 1 article), no (t yet)
