Nice work so far, it looks great :) But I've got a question, is it possible to add games by myself or do I have to wait always for a new update? I have a videogame forum and it would be great to add games by myself.
You can only add the games yourself. There is none with the ext.

Not in this (Beta) or any previous version.

I realize this is possibly out of the scope of this ext but I'm hoping to drum up some hype.
I use the original mod, and have used it since 2009. Its been a great addition to our forum.
Over the years, Iwe had a a lot of time to think about possible improvements. ;)
  • First off, our members like to talk about and hype new games. Having the options to comment on games in the database would be a great feature.
  • Second, the details block has never really worked optimal. You can't use bbcodes or format the text in any way. We would like to be able to add release date, publisher, producers, genre etc etc..
  • Third, we would like if our members where able to add games themselves.
I actually have put some though into possible solutions... ;)
Imagine this.
A forum is nominated as "game database". Sub forums in this forum act as categories. Each topic in these forums act as a games in the "game database".
To add a new game to the database you just create a new topic.

Now comes the tricky part. To make sure all topics have the same information. Cover, release date, publisher, producers, genre etc etc. Rules would have to be followed and somewhat uniform.
One solution could be to use a template form which would need to be filled each time a new topic is made in the specified forum. Like Sajaki's appform from 3.0.
Another solution would be to use a gamedatabase service. Like Giantbomb. Giantbomb has a public API which all relevant data can be pulled from. That way you only need to add a game name and the rest could is pulled through the API. :)

This would then support all sorts of other fancy stuff through other extensions like influence, liking, cashmods, sharing etc etc...

Below you can see a dummy image of how a gamecard could look, all with information from Giantbomb. :)

I would not do it. There may be still too many bugs.
wkuzma wrote:I found another problem
when I upload a game picture the file permissions are set to 600
I manually have to change them to 644 in order for the picture to show on my
web site.

If I upload a picture in one of my forums the file permission is set to 644
only your extension is setting the file permission to 600.
Which permission has the folder "image"? 600?
You must change the permission of the folder to 644 and the next images have also 644.
I must to put a info note in the mod.

The other error is already fixed and coming with the next version.

@Mess:
Something similar hiding behind "advanced game page". :D

I was thinking of links to the forum or thread. Where the user can talk about the games.

Definitely
Mess wrote:Third, we would like if our members where able to add games themselves.
Hmmm... I will think it over.

You must change the permission of the folder to 644 and the next images have also 644.
I must to put a info note in the mod.
the images folder was originally set to 755 I then set the folder to 644 and then get this error
Could not upload game image to ./../ext/tacitus89/gamesmod/images/cod1.gif.
I reset it to 755 and the picture uploads but the permission on the uploaded file is 600

I have no problem manually setting the uploaded file to 644 but others that use your ext may not have that ability.

I'll test this on a live board when the permissions are fixed.

I also get that error if I read any message message previously posted

I did notice that for the error to happen you have to be logged in

There seems to be a limit on how many words can be put in the description of a game
When I try to put this in the description
Call of Duty 2
Video game
9/10·Steam
4.5/5·Metacritic
Call of Duty 2 is a 2005 first-person shooter video game and the second installment in the critically acclaimed Call of Duty series. It was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Konami in Japan and Activision in the rest of the world. Wikipedia
Initial release date: October 25, 2005
Series: Call of Duty
Awards: VGX Award for Best Military Game
Developers: Infinity Ward, Aspyr
Platforms: Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Mobile phone, Smartphone, Mac OS, Windows Mobile, Pocket PC
Publishers: Activision, Aspyr, Konami, Hands-On Mobile, Activision Blizzard
I get this error

General Error
Language file ./../ext/tacitus89\gamesmod/language/en/exceptions.php couldn't be opened.

However if I add only this much
Call of Duty 2
Video game
9/10·Steam
4.5/5·Metacritic
Call of Duty 2 is a 2005 first-person shooter video game and the second installment in the critically acclaimed Call of Duty series. It was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Konami in Japan
it saves without a problem.

When viewing the owned games the description over writes the owners name
and makes it very hard to read who owns the game.

Yes, that comes from the old mod. You can put only 255 character.
BUT: In the next version, it will be replaced with a real textfield and new fields.
