Changing the langauge of my phpBB3 forum

Post by dhargaalga » Thu May 18, 2017 9:40 pm

I set up this forum as a FRENCH language forum. This is the http://temoindemont.org/phpBB3/ forum. I have the Categories and forum topics in french, and it is working. I have downloaded the french_3_0_0 Now I want to upload. I know that I must upload using my FileZilla. How do I make the forum start working in french? I expect visitors to the forum to be monolingual in french language.

Upload the fr folder into the language folder. Go to the ACP, Customisation tab and click the Language Packs link, then Install.

I have uploaded the content of french_3_0_0 to the "language" folder on my /pulic_html/ I reached the ACP and clicked on language packs. The french language is not there. See attached.
I checked in my Cpanel file manager and the folder is there.

Which folder do you mean? The downloaded folder is titled "french"; so are all related folders in the Cpanel File Manager.

No idea what the rest of that mess in the language folder is. And don't use the cPanel File Manager to move or upload files. Use FTP.

Thanks. I have installed it. System tells me all is complete.
I cleared cache and opened the forum at http://temoindemont.org/phpBB3/ Nothing seems to have changed. I wrote the categories and posts titles in french before. What changes should I expect?

do you want it to be default language for all the users (including guests)
if so, you have to set it as the Default Language at Board Settings section

Board Admin panel >> General (tab) >> Board Configuration (left column menu)
>> Board Settings >> Default language

you may have to purge the board cache after selecting default language

members also have language selection option at their user control panel
user control panel >> Board preferences >> Edit global settings >> My language

Sorry. I can't find the Board Admin Panel.

I have set the global default language to French.
When I logged off, the welcome screen was in French. That is how I wanted it; but when I logged in, it all became English again. I want guests and everyone who visits to communicate in french.

I am not logged in and the board is in French. You will not be able to see the ACP link until you log in as an admin. Then it will be just to the right of the FAQ link - ACP in English, CPA in French. You need to go to the ACP, Customise tab, Language packs and Delete the British English. Then all users will be in French, even Guests.

You may laugh at me a bit; I did not know that ACP is the same as the Board Admin!

Anyway, it is all resolved now as I deleted the British English: Everyone now will communicate on the Forum in french.
