store exif data in uploaded and resized photos

Post by Harrison76 » Thu Dec 06, 2018 4:51 pm

Bye, everybody,
I set the forum so that it automatically resizes the photos to a maximum size of 1600x1600 pixels. The problem is that in resizing happens that I delete the exif data, and instead I need to keep this data in the photos. Is there any way to solve this problem? Thank you

If you do resize the data get lost. No way.

there are some graphics programs that allows you to resize photos without losing exif data: is there not an extension for phpbb that allows you to do this? How also to compress them, because even if resized they are always large

Yes, and phpBB is not one of them. Technically this implies not only carrying over the EXIF data but also adjusting it (size and height attributes) and supporting every picture format that supports EXIF (not just JPEG).

JPEGs naturally are compressed heavily already - compressing them further downgrades quality. PNGs, GIFs, TIFFs and WEBPs can't be compressed any further.

But I happen to upload jpg from a few hundred kb, and then find them on the forum heavy over a mb.

"Resize" uses a predefined compression that plays strange jokes in some cases.

What do the numbers say if you download that same image from the server to your desktop?

from the server to the dektop remains the same, when instead I take them from the desktop to the server the size increases a lot, even 5 times.
