thank you!

in the link you sent me, it is written:
<<
On your website, delete all files from your board EXCEPT for:

The config.php file

The ext/ directory

The images/ directory

The files/ directory

The store/ directory >>

can i ask you: on siteground (my provider) the way to do access the website is via "SiteTools" there is a "public ftp" and a "public html":
is that what you call "board" (i can see there is a config folder, a image folder, a files folder, and a store directory
i thus have to delete all the folders in "public hmtl" but not these four ones?

where s my "forum directory"? is it located in the "public html" as well, and is the folder called "phpBB"?

sorry i am not an expert . appreciated help.

Hi
You put the phpBB core files and folder directly in the public html directory?
Sorry for my English ... I do my best!

also you mention not deleting the config directory. That is wrong, its config.php (a file NOT a directory) that needs to be kept.

So you NEED to keep

The config.php file

The ext/ directory

The images/ directory

The files/ directory

The store/ directory

You may also need to keep the .htaccess file is it has customisation from the default.

i drag and dropped from the phpBB new extracted folder on my computer
and tried to drop on "public html" but it was impossible, so what was allowed was to add inside
this folder, below the content that was not deleted

but now my site is damaged, and i don't know:
when uploading from the computer, do you mean doing it with FileZilla?

and what about the other folders like the "logs", and the "webstats" these are not to be deleted?
they are outside the "public html" directory

public_html is the root of your domain, usually we put the phpBB core files and folders there in a PHPBB3 folder or something else. Did you do that?

You have not uploaded all of the files and directories.

In your /public_html, I see no index.html nor .htaccess. That could be normal if your settings do not show hidden files - but in that case the printscreen isn't very helpful.
Also:
I see inside your public_html a directory /phpbb.

If you board root is in fact the public_html, then it should contain the /phpbb directory (which is in the archive) but perhaps you uploaded the whole archive into the /phpbb.
The correct file-directory structure is shown in the printscreen HifiKabin posted.

Image
This structure should be fount in the public_html (or in public_html/phpBB/ if that is your board root).
In a printscreen if would also be useful if you showed the file/directory sizes (and data)
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

hi. thank you .
i finally understood i had to upload via filezilla. (i know, i am slow)
how can i know what is my "board root" i guessed it was public_html, but i don't remember why, probably because of the orginal location
of the phpBB files that i deleted (keeping the ext files image store drectories and the config.php)
but i am not too sure
now may be since my website name is https://www.orbitalflatsurface.xyz maybe the name of the board root is orbitalflatsurface.xyz like this one is on top in image attached?
or may-be if website install is still not working now its because the phpBB3 folder is below the public_html (if the later is the board root?)
nota bene: the phpBB3 folder inside appears just as in the image you reposted, i just didn't have space to show in attached capture

thanks

The board may now be working but the last printscreen still raises some questions.
Your board root is where the config.php resides.
In your printscreen that would be the /public_html, in which case you are still missing a lot of phpbb directories. (as you only have /ext, /files, /images and /store).
There is also a directory /phpBB3 visible and I suspect that that is your board root.
Please post a printscreen of the directory structure within the /phpBB3 to confirm you have the following files and directories
dirstructure.jpg
Actually this printscreen I took contains the same information as the one HifiKabin took. If everything you see in my (or HifiKabin's) printscreen, is present in the /phpBB3, then that is your board root.

The directories /ext, /files, /images and /store and the config.php directly within /public_html are probably superfluous and if so, should be removed to avoid confusion (when updating the next time). I suggest renaming those temporarily to see whether it affects your board. If not they can be safely removed (not absolutely necessary but just to avoid confusion in the future).
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.
