The M Chat Problem [resolved]

Post by steadwell » Fri Feb 24, 2017 12:09 am

I've seen many references to this problem, or variations of it, yet have been unable to ascertain a solution!

As of yesterday, I was on pbpbb 3.0.14. I successfully installed automod and then installed mchat 1.3.8 which appeared to have run to a successful completion, however, the chat box never appeared anywhere on the site. I then decided to uninstall mchat and delete it, which also appeared to be successful. At that point, I decided to upgrade being that I was way behind the current release, so I did an upgrade from 3.0.14 to 3.1.10 which was successful. I took a backup and then followed the instructions for upgrading to 3.2 by deleting everything except config.php, /files, /images, /store, /ext. It ran to a successful completion and the site came up with no apparent problem. Then, when I went to the extensions tab, I received this:

Code: Select all

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Table 'f5bal6x2_phpb1.MCHAT_CONFIG_TABLE' doesn't exist [1146]

Visiting the ACP_CAT_MODS yielded this:

Code: Select all

General Error
Cannot find module ./../includes/acp/acp_mods.php

I took the advice from a previous thread to attempt to run mchat_install again in order to uninstall but to no avail.

After going through the complete upgrade to 3.2 for a second time, the results are identical.

What?

My board is here

Any help would be appreciated!

Use 🔗 Support Toolkit to clean your database for additional tables before upgrade.

Thank you for your quick response Neculai Anisor!

I looked into the Support Toolkit as you advised and noticed that it is unsuitable for 3.1, so evidently it was developed specifically for the 3.0 line. In order for me to attempt to utilize the STK, I would have to take 2 steps backward since I first upgraded to 3.1 then, in a subsequent endeavor, upgraded to 3.2. Perhaps the tables could be cleaned manually? I'm not familiar enough with the database schema to feel comfortable in taking that approach though.

I guess my point is, it seems like a great deal of time would be expended to get back to 3.0.14, not to mention the risk of opening up another "can of worms", which I'm not too gung-ho about. Any other ideas?

BTW - thanks for your help! :)

get this tool: http://3di.space/32/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=22
run it on your board. it should remove any left over 3.0 MODs. it will also remove any extensions you may have installed so be sure to follow the instructions on that page.

Thank you Robert!

I ran the tool and it was successful in removing the AUTOMOD tab from the admin control panel. However, the extension tab still persists (if there were no extensions it would not display), and when I click it, I still get this -

Code: Select all

General Error
Cannot find module ./../includes/acp/acp_mchat.php

BACKTRACE

FILE: (not given by php)
LINE: (not given by php)
CALL: msg_handler()

FILE: [ROOT]/includes/functions_module.php
LINE: 573
CALL: trigger_error()

FILE: [ROOT]/adm/index.php
LINE: 82
CALL: p_master->load_active()
There is still "mchat" stored in a table somewhere and I can't find it. Thanks for this tool though, it was very helpful in resolving at least a big part of the problem!

You can delete that module manually from acp.

If you go to the ACP->System->Administration Control Panel you should be able to remove the module from there. If you still get that error, then try accessing the module management for ACP via a direct link when logged into the ACP which would be

After wending my way through the ACP options, I finally figured out how to delete the module. The extensions tab now doesn't appear, meaning no other extensions exist I suppose.

Thanks for leading me in the right direction Neculai Anisor and RMcGirr83 !

This problem is resolved to my satisfaction. :D
