Mass Email in ACP Template Variables?

In this section of my ACP (screenshot also attached for quick reference):
adm/index.php?sid=c5bc0bd8bb269530596e5e4261beb831&i=acp_email&mode=email

I want to send a mass email out to everyone.

My understanding after editing it and seeing changes is that the template email file for this is language/en_us/admin_send_email.txt. (en_us for me and testing this, will change all files as soon as I figure it out).

I see a variable inside called {MESSAGE}. This is obviously the variable for what I type in that UCP section.

Code: Select all

Hey {USERNAME}! //added by me, it printed "Hey !" as seen in my inbox ({USERNAME} was blank)

{MESSAGE}

{EMAIL_SIG}
How can I put in the .txt template file at the top like "Hey {USERNAME}!" as a greeting so each user gets their username in the email?

In short, I need to know if it is and how it is possible to user a username variable in these board mass emails.

Thanks!

Edit: I found these, but none of them work!
Was this feature removed?

Why would this be removed?!
It would be so awesome to be able to address all of the users with their username instead of a generic Hey. Is there any alternative/extension/mod?

Anyone have any current documentation for putting variables in mass email template of admin_send_email.txt?

{TO_USERNAME} I tried didn't work either. I am also looking to make HTML in the mass emails to stylize them a bit if anyone knows.

It would be far easier to do this by exporting the usernames and email addresses and using a proprietary email client, like Thunderbird. If you do:

Code: Select all

SELECT username, user_email FROM phpbb_users WHERE user_type <> 2;
and save the output of the query as Excel or csv, should be easy to make an email group. Use HTML, etc.
