email notification on new post

Post by johnnycashy » Sun Apr 23, 2017 11:31 pm

Hello guys,
i installed your forum software, created a new user, made a post and
my forum email or my admin email get no message about new post.

In ACP/General/Client Communication/EMail settings i checked test mail
and got an email.

So sending email works.

How to get an email on new post ?

Thank you

that might be handy but it is not what the OP asked about.

you have to go to your personal control panel and set your notifications to get emails when there is a new post in a forum that you have subscribed to.

Hello,
thank you for answer.
Well, as Administrator i do not subscribe to any forum.

Do you suggest to create a user, subscribing to all forums and make this settings ?

I really wonder, why such a powerful tool lags by this MUST HAVE feature.

There is no email notification of new posts to admins (or anyone) by default. This is because forcing unsolicited email is called spamming. If you want email for new posts, subscribe to all forums and in Notifications, check the box to receive email notification. This (in your opinion) MUST HAVE feature IS present, but you must invoke it.

Thank you,
yes, you are right, it is my opinion.

What do you think about a forum, where you don't get an answer ?
You leave it.

If you have a new forum, you need to pay attention.
An mail notifcation is - in my opinion - the most effective method for this.

Spam. If you set: registered users (reg with captcha) can
post messages only and let's say you can set a time interval, when postings are done within interval,
you get a notification mail, then spam should not be a problem.

Thank you for this software but for new forums, which need to grow, i think
such (scaleable) posting feature is a good idea.

However, i appreciate your simple solution.

There is a problem. Posts of newly registered users needs to be checked by Admin.
As admin you get no mail about this new post.

As a 2nd user you are not notified until this post has been accepeted by admin...

And as the moderator gets no email...

Just got a message for my new forum by a new user:

"I registered for the board, but did not receive an activation email, so I asked for it to be resent, but so far nothing. Should I just wait, or can you activate for me. The username is sectorbets"

He wrote me an email to a known contact.

Sory, i know phpBB is liked and widespreaded but i can't understand why it lags such a fundamental
feature...completely unknowable. And i am not alone. This is a frequent question: How to get informed
for new post or registrations.

Such users will drop the forum.

Also, administrator receives notification mail for the pending posts.
(not sure if a moderator gets the mail notification)

You can get a notification for new posts by subscribing. There is no subscription notice for posts requiring approval, because they are not yet posts. You can get notification for new registrations by setting Activation to "By admin", assuming you have the permission "Can manage users". If you are not getting the email, either you do not have that permission, you are looking at the wrong email account, or something else is wrong. Moderators get notice of posts needing approval both in the MCP and by the special icon in viewforum. Presumably, if one is moderating a forum, they will visit it from time to time.

That's the basic idea of a BBS: you revisit it. If you want to get notifications about everything you then want mailing lists.

The problem is probably not my English but you do not want to understand correctly.

I get no email about new messages, even i subscribed with a 2nd username, aside my admin username.
As the creator of the forum i should have admin rights for my admin user.

However, no emails about new messages. But this changed as well from one day to another. Don't know why.
Before, i got a notifcation about new messages even for my own answers. (So the admin informed about a message from admin...)

Is it possible to reinstall the complete forum but to keep all databases ? So users and posts ?

Thank you

And if you are still the administrator then you will have access to the ACP to set the permissions.
Check all your permissions (and check which groups you belong to - group permissions and groupforumpermissions could override your admin permissions (if set to NEVER).

Yes, but you have to keep in mind that all settings (thus including permission settings) are in the database.
In other words, you will have the exactly the same board (unless there were file modifications).

of course but that would mean just replacing the files with new ones and that won't solve whatever your problem is.

settings are in the database just like users, posts, forums, etc. etc.

your email problem is probably related to the email address you are using for the board and/or for your personal account.

you need to have a email address at your domain so that your host server does not block it from relaying.

you@yourdomain.com etc.
