SSL Certificate

Post by AbbeLabben1337 »

Hi, I'm pretty new to PHPBB and I am pretty newbie at this. So I currently have a problem. My website http://apolloonline.se/ is HTTP and not HTTPS. If I have a free SLS certificate, how do I get it to work on my website? (https://www.sslforfree.com/). Where do I put both of the files I got installed?

That would be a question for your host. Many hosts supply SSL certificates themselves FOC via cPanel, I know mine does. Doing it via the host removes any issues of where to put the files.

Installing a SSL Cert involves a CSR request and some other steps. Likely whoever your host is will have to install it for you unless they allow you to do it through cpanel like Mick said.

Ask your host - they are the ones that know the server set up. They will either do it for you of point you to their FAQ

Do you have a certificate.

Assuming you do, I pasted the code into the footer coding for the forum and now my forum can use HTTPS. I just googled somthing like "where to put SSL certificate in phpBB3" and up popped the answer. Hope this helps?

If you don't have the certificate yet, you apply through yout host and they will probably farm you out to a third party authenticator, my host uses geotrust, for example.

Good morning,
I did everything as per procedure by emptying the forum cache, ftp and updating the browser but it does not work.
Questi sono i certificati ottenuti che ho caricato nella root (su consiglio di Register) dove si trova il file .hatcess
Cattura.JPG
Cattura.JPG (15.62 KiB) Viewed 794 times
This is the code obtained by Register to be inserted in .htaccess replacing "dominio-pro.net" with the address of the forum.

Code: Select all

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.dominio-pro.net$ [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^dominio-pro.net$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !^https$
RewriteRule ^(.*) https://www.dominio-pro.net/$1 [R=301,L]
</IfModule>

Instead, this is the clean .hatcess file without the code provided by Register.

Code: Select all

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on

I tried to insert the two codes one at a time and every time I put everything in it I always emptied it, but with negative results.
The beauty is that, however, the green lock appears but sometimes the page becomes white or else comes out the classic writing that the index is not reachable.

At this point the questions are:
1) Are the certificates loaded in the right place?
2) In the .htaccess file I have some extra string that prevents the correct operation?

Thanks in advance for the always precious help.

we have no way of knowing. this is server/host related and has nothing to do with phpbb.
10 different people here can describe they way they did it on their server but that has nothing to do with how to do it on your server.

CONTACT YOUR HOST and they will take care of it for you.
