URGENT: Trying to update to 3.2 from 3.1 and ...

Post by «THÖMÅS®©» »

Were getting a white screen?

We have uploaded all the files for 3.2 and when we try to do the update, we get nothing but a white screen although we can login to the boards even with the 3.2 files uploaded.

I don't know whats going on here, could we get some help please?

We were running 3.1.10 before attempting the update. We have removed all extensions and deleted them before attempting the update.

I have managed to figure out that only I can do it as I am Founder, but my site manager is too, in any event...

I have managed to get it to show, but it wont update, I am guessing because of wrong FTP info, when I go to try and update from the first step, it skips direct to the file list (ones to delete and ones to update), how do I get back to the beginning? I tried a CTRL and F5 by the way.

I did try all methods after I could not revert back to the page where you can input FTP login details, and it kept skipping to the "automatic update" page. In the end, for the time being, I reverted back to 3.1.10 until I can get some assistance from the staff here to avoid destroying our forum, even though I do have a backup.

It is always something simple that I cannot work out, and it is incredibly frustrating!

Kind Regards,

Thomas.

The cause of a white screen will be in the server error logs.

You don't need to do the auto update method with FTP information. If you follow the link janus posted you just trash almost everything and upload the new files yourself. There's no real point in merging them.

Hello KevC, thank you for your reply...

Well, I did that as well, I even did a restore to the backup I made only hours before and tried all over again with the same result. Would not progress beyond an error after clicking update saying there was a timeout error.

I am not sure what it is I am doing that is preventing me from getting 3.2, I require more "direct" assistance.

A timeout is a server side issue.

Try this

KevC, I actually believe it is the FTP info that I entered was incorrect, maybe an incorrect character or something, the updater to 3.2 goes to the timeout error as soon as I click "Update" and not after a few seconds as I am thinking your going with as the issue. I cannot go back to change them as I have tried to start from the beginning and it just would not let me, no matter how many times I tried, it just skipped to the same page where I click "update", I will try it again when I have time later today (hopefully) and maybe try and get you either a video or some screen shots...

The FTP info is irrelevant if you follow the instructions janus posted.
Clear the cache before you start as well. Delete everything except htaccess and index.htm

Sometimes this helps
Did you check your config.php?
Change mysql in mysqli
Or use a other browser or purge browser cache

Or delete update info from the /store/ folder.

I will try this again tonight. Of course I will create a backup first before I do anything. I will report back with my results later.

Could I ask just a brief question...

Is it a requirement for 3.2 to run on PHP 5.6 or is there another minimum requirement, say 5.5 or something else?

Yes, both of those are completely fine.
