Error upgrading to 3.2.1

Upgrade process seemed to go fine, but neither the forum nor the admin panel work now.

I get this in php_errors.log:
[16-Jul-2017 23:34:27 UTC] PHP Recoverable fatal error: Object of class Twig_Source could not be converted to string in /var/www/htdocs/phpbb/template/twig/lexer.php on line 147

How did you update? Did you delete the vendor folder or just let the files be overwritten? You need to delete the vendor folder and upload the new copy of it.

Remove the old vendor folder, and replace it by the new one.

Same problem, but remove the vendor folder doesn't change anything :'(

I have the same problem. Removed vendor and cache, uploaded new vendor and install and I still have:

PHP message: PHP Catchable fatal error: Object of class Twig_Source could not be converted to string in /var/www/forum/phpbb/template/twig/lexer.php on line 147

I use PHP 7.0 on Debian 9.0.

First a note: the upgrade instructions in the admin panel do not say to delete them first, it simply says to copy those directories from the upgrade package.

As to your suggestion:
I pulled a copy of the site from my backups, deleted the vendor folder then copied it and the install directory from the upgrade package. I also cleared out the cache directory. Ran the update again.... same error as before.

You can succeed updating with the full package docs/INSTALL.html#update_full

This worked, after deleting the contents of the cache directory. Thank you.
