Hi Steve, Hi John,

yes I followed THIS Instruction:https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... ating-32x/

After uploading the Files and starting Install, I got the message to update and question to download old files which I agreed then the Error occurs suddenly.

I saved back my backup and tryed it again - same effect.

I do not really need copies of the old files - is there a way to skip this?

When In logged on into the forum after this desaster, I was asked to do an Database update and then delete the Install folder - I stopped here beacuse I dont know what will happen with this broken update when updating the database.

cheers Frank

Hi Darklirah,

Please let me know what files and folder you actually backup, i shall do the same to prevent the mess from happening next time.

All i did was backup the database. But the database on site was over 550 MB while the backedup gzip when uncompressed comes to just 250 MB. I have no idea why the backup is so small and will i be able to recover anything from that.

May be next time i should backup like you to avoid any mess from happening.

Thanks.

updateissues
What issues? You backup everything first then following the KB you download and unzip the full package, remove a couple of things from the package (personally I think deleting config.php is sufficient but...) upload the rest of it to your board root. Run /install, delete or rename the /install folder and its time for coffee and croissants.

Install auto backup
Run that 4 times a day

Go every Sunday to your hostpanel,
Click "file manager"
Click your board folder
Right click "compress"
Download the compressed folder to your pc

Now the max. you can loose is 1 week of messages no matter what is happening with your board or host.

Hi,

I just made a backup of everything - but I have a hoster, which makes 2 times a day backup of my whole webspace including the databases.

Cheers Frank

You did not follow the instructions. You used an update file package.

Sorry but how can you claim he used update files when there aren't any yet? The instructions he shows are exactly the instructions given. After buggering a couple of test forums I gave up and will just forget it for the moment.

I just recovered the website using an update made by my hoster. Any idea when we can safely update the forum?

The "Automatic Update Package" is still missing in action.I wish to take the most easiest and safe method to perform this update.

Thanks, Helios.

Hi Guys,

So I fixed my Problems.
What I did:
  • Total recovery of my forum, including database.
  • Update as described in the update howto - NO autoupdate!!
( just an database update was requested by the install - and it worked propperly)
What I got:
 An up to date installation as intended

Thx Guys for all the good hints and help.

Cheers Frank
