Where in ACP can I edit the code for the theme?

Post by djiplayer » Thu Oct 12, 2017 6:40 am

I want to customize the interface for my board, such as adding a menu bar below the banner, and add some words at the bottom of the page.
Anyone knows where in Administrator Control Panel can I edit the code?

Now a days phpbb works with extensions and edit the core files is unwanted.

See viewforum.php?f=616 in general and
viewtopic.php?f=616&t=2432701 for buttons
Sorry! My English is bat ;) !!!

What do you mean by unwanted?

It is no longer necessary and to prevent that your edit disappear with the next update the invented the extension.

But it is your board so you can do with it what you want.

So if I want to add a menu bar to my board, the only option is to add an extension?

It is recommended and easier to use a extension.

But you are free to edit the core files.
You have to download the file with ftp, edit the file on your pc, upload him and purge the cache.

I see, so if I don't install extensions I have to edit the file on my pc or file manager.
Could you recommend an extension for adding the menu or page footer texts?

Seems some old version phpbb allows to edit the file in ACP, what are cons to use old version phpbb?

Why you don't want to use the very simple to handle extensions or use a ftp program?

Edit the files is the same in ACP or on your Pc so that can't be the reason?

They are not supported, and you will probably have difficulty in finding the files

In any case, the ACP editor was for testing purposes only and in the extreme cases where a user had no FTP access. Once the cache was purged all edits were lost. There are plenty of up to date extensions and different styles to choose from, have a search round the extensions and styles forums. If you can’t find an extension that does what you want you can make an extension request.

I just think edit in ACP is more convenient, as in wordpress I can edit stylesheet or other files in dashboard. ;) But after read your words, I think I will get used to do the edit with ftp program.
