Hidden/Password protected boards

Post by Emberdreamweaver » Wed Nov 15, 2017 10:11 pm

Is it possible to totally hide parent & child boards? And/or having them password protected?

No. Yes.

How would you be able to reach totally hidden forums at all?

What's the bigger picture of what you're trying to do?

It's easy to make, for example, a VIP or admin area that the 'normal' users cannot see but specific people can.

HI, I'm a friend of the OP Emberdreamweaver. She and I have the same questions.

We're both in the process of converting from ZIF to something else and we're trying to determine where we'd
want to build our new forums.

After looking at the feature list we saw PW protected forums are possible. We were relieved.

On the matter of Hidden Boards. What we're both looking for are boards that can only be accessed by the
site Admin via the Admin CP or Admin Section. These boards would not be seen on the home index page
and so, as admin, we would be able to see the same index page as our members. Plus, it makes our
home page a lot less cluttered. I don't remember how many hidden boards Ember has but I have four.

I hope this helps and further clarifies what we'd like to have.

Thanks,
Lisa

You cannot access forums through the admin panel in that way.

They would need to be forums on the index like any other but you can set the permissions such that only the admin group can see them.

If you wanted an area private and separate from the rest of the site you cold just do a second installation that only the admins can access.

Also, permissions are a FAR better way to protect forums than passwords.

I also detect a possible nomenclature issue. phpbb.com/community is a "Board". [3.2.x] Support Forum is a "Forum". Hidden/Password protected boards is a "topic".
