Correctly defining moderators so that they show up as moderators.

Post by Shumba » Thu Nov 16, 2017 7:12 pm

Hi again :3

So, I have set the forum so that…
Global Moderators cannot see any forum (Forums > Forum based permissions > Forum permissions …I think). Using settings I saved as TTTModUser via Permissions > Permission rolls > Forum roles

So unless a mod user belongs to a group that can see in a certain forum, the mod has no access to it, so cannot touch it.

Is this the right way to go about applying mod rights to people so that only the forums the people already have access to, can be moderated?

Before this I had my own moderator groups that worked but they didn’t ‘appear as’ moderators visually. No mod label, no name colour change.
Now I’m having the issue of … my test people still are not appearing as moderators O_O
So I gained nawt by changing it all lol

Has this got something to do with ranks? I can’t seem to find how special ranks are applied currently (see complaint below). But I have a few special ranks I’d like to give users such as moderator names depending on the forum there in or to be able to label someone of importance to the forum as VIP. Currently I have only 2 things showing “Site Admin” and a rank name that appears after posting 1 post (a default name). But mods need to be label mods. Their names are not even in the ‘global moderator’ colour.

Am I trying to do something outside of the forums ability? Should I be using something else? Should I use an extension? And seriously the root of my troubles, what the guide??

The guide tells you how to set things up, but doesn’t tell you how to exactly do the task you were after. Example ranks “Special ranks are ranks that administrators assign to users” right.. but how?! It doesn’t say short of digging over every page of the ACP?
Don’t get me wrong, no disrespect intended. I’m really liking the forum, over others I’ve tried and it does appear to have the functionality I need and seems rather logical so far.
It’s just as I said, I get the feeling I may be back here a few times to come.

But that aside, could anyone shed any light on my moderator muddle?
Thanks.

See the Group settings of the mod group ( group colour)
And if you want, make a group rang. (you can find that under the group colour)

There are no "labels" in phpBB. I assume you are talking about a Rank. You would need to set the Rank of the moderator user, or the user's default usergroup. A user's name color is the color of their default usergroup.

Hmm then I guess I should ask, how do I set what is default for the Rank of the moderator user and the user's default usergroup?
I'm not 100% on what you mean, still learning all the terms.

That’s about what I guessed at, but no change.
I’m thinking the display of the moderator rank title is being overwritten by the normal registered user one or one from another group perhaps. Do I need to prioritise Ranks somehow?

Did you make that group the default for its members?

Also, the 3.2 User Guide will answer most of your questions.
