Remember me/cookie

Post by nhseacoast »

Quick question...
I believe my cookie settings to be correct, but I'm getting a complaint that the Remember me isn't keeping him logged in.
If he clicks Logout, will that delete the cookie which the Remember me has set and that's why he's not remembered?

Yes your cookie info looks right. If it's wrong generally the problem affects everyone.

Logging out will not remove the current cookie. They will need to do that in their browser or click the link at the bottom right of your index page (next to the 'team' link).

Thank you for the reply. What if his browser settings were set to clear cache and not remember history etc.?

If you log out, you have to log back in again, cookies or no cookies.

So the Remember me function will work only if he's not logging out, but simply closing his browser?

Update. The user in question is not logging out, he simply closes his browser and the Remember me works for him on other sites with no problem.

I think it’s fair to say if he’s the only one affected it’s something to do with his setup. What is he using to access your board, a PC, phone or tablet? I’ve never managed to get remember me to work on my iPhone (no big deal, phones are better for texting and calling people anyway) but everything else is tickety boo.

I think it's his setup as well. He's using Google Chrome on a PC. What's strange is he's saying he has no problem with this on other sites.

Is that other phpBB sites or in general do you know? Ask him to try another browser.

Not sure if he's visiting phpbb sites or not. I'm sure it's his settings. I just tested Chrome and Firefox and it works fine on my end. I just gave instructions on how to fix his settings in Chrome.
Thank you.

Ok I made a bad assumption. He is using Google. NOT Google Chrome and he's on his Android. He's an older gentleman so I'm assuming he's not much of a PC guy.
I had him delete the board cookies and try again. Hopefully that'll fix it for him. It seems to work fine on my phone.

That, if you don'y mind me saying, is somewhat disingenuous.

Not intended to be. It's that age group where there just aren't a lot of PC-savvy people. It's simply reality.
