Cool. So when google bots come to a phpbb forum, it knows where to go to find all the posts?

How do you select the forum theme that the bots will see? I used to see this feature in the admin panel, but I can't find it anymore.

Also, can table codes like this that I use to create sidebars on the forum index page, be used with phpbb 3.2? See below

Code: Select all

<td width="160" valign="top">

<div align="center">

<br><br><br><br><br><br><br>

<font size=3 face=Arial>Follow Us</font>
<!-- Go to www.addthis.com/dashboard to customize your tools -->
<div class="addthis_horizontal_follow_toolbox"></div>

<br>

<iframe src="http://www.loveme.com/contentads/afa/events.shtml" width=260 Height=525>
</iframe>

<br><br>

<iframe src="http://loveme.com/igo/happierabroad/11/40/7/120/180/0" width="120" height="1260" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

<br><br>

</script>
<!-- End of banner link -->

Does phpbb 3.2 have features that will reduce database errors like these:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Too many connections [1040]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

It is a problem with the database server. You will need to contact your host about it.

You need to ask your host to either up the maximum number of connections or to fix the problem.

Thanks

Aah, that’s what it’s for? I never did find out what the reason for it was, I still don’t really get it :(

WWu777 wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2017 10:01 pm You mean that extension will automatically embed all YouTube URL's? I don't want that though. I want it to be an option to embed them or just post as normal links.
If you put URL tags round the link it will not automatically embed so you still have the best of both worlds.

Extensions are so easy that you can upload, install and try it. If you don't like it, uninstall and go back to BBcodes.

Google et al. are far more clever than you're giving them credit for. They don't need a sitemap to index your content.

Putting all of this stuff in to one long topic isn't the way to go. If you want help with a style issue and a sidebar you should start a new topic in the styles support forum.

Dear Support,

A few questions.

1. When I install phpbb 3.2, will the user avatars in the default prosilver style be on the left or right side of the forum topics pages? If they will be on the right side, how do I move them to the left side?

2. On my forum I have a page that shows that latest 100 topics in the forum. It seems to be the most popular page in my forum according to Google Analytics. It looks like most users go there first rather than the active topics page. I'm referring to this page:

http://www.happierabroad.com/forum/latesttopics.php

If I want to make that work with phpbb 3.2, I assume I'll need a different code to show topics in the forum on external pages right? If so, what's the easiest way to show topic pages in external links to other pages?

Thanks.

On the right.
Unsurprisingly you'd need an extension.
If you look in the extensions database you find this
https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... e_switcher
Which should be fine on 3.2 as well.

That wasn't part of 3.0 and it isn't part of 3.2 so you'll need to look at your code and work out how to replicate it. Search on this site for 'display topics/posts on another page' as it gets asked an awful lot.

Ok thanks for your help KevC.

Another question. The default search engine on phpbb is hard to use, and not quick and simple like Google search box is. Is there an extension or hack that allows us to put Google search boxes here? Is it better to use Google search boxes? Or does phpbb 3.2 have a better search box than before? Usually the phpbb search box keeps returning a message saying that the search term is too common to display anything. That's lame. Google never does that.

Looking at the top of this forum, it seems a Google search box is used too. See these results:

https://www.phpbb.com/search/?q=display ... rnal+pages

It looks like Google search results. Is it? If so, how do I install the same on my forum?

Or will the default search box in the default Prosilver theme be ok?

Thanks again.

It's better if you start a new topic for each question.

Ironically I just did a search in the extensions DB for the word 'search' and found this as the top answer

Thanks. Which search engine does this forum use? A Google one? The search results here have always looked like they're from Google, even years ago. So it must be a special mod?

Will the default search engine for phpbb 3.2 be just as good as Google's?

The box at the very top right is google I think.
The one under the quicklinks is the built in system.

I've never had a problem with either.
If you're getting messages about words being too common you can change the search criteria in the admin panel.

Quick question. If I want to change the title tag so that the topic title appears first and then the site name after, what do I change in the code below from the overall header file so that it displays in search results like this "Topic Title - Site Name":

<title><!-- IF UNREAD_NOTIFICATIONS_COUNT -->({UNREAD_NOTIFICATIONS_COUNT}) <!-- ENDIF --><!-- IF not S_VIEWTOPIC and not S_VIEWFORUM -->{SITENAME} - <!-- ENDIF --><!-- IF S_IN_MCP -->{L_MCP} - <!-- ELSEIF S_IN_UCP -->{L_UCP} - <!-- ENDIF -->{PAGE_TITLE}<!-- IF S_VIEWTOPIC or S_VIEWFORUM --> - {SITENAME}<!-- ENDIF --></title>

Btw why does the site title showing first before the topic title? It should be topic title first. That's much better for SEO. So why isn't it the default too? I thought that would have been fixed by now?

Ok I tried to do that, but my topic was locked. See here:

viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2446816

Someone must have misunderstood. The code I posted in the above topic was from phpbb 3.2. NOT 3.0. They accidentally thought it was from 3.0 and locked the topic it seems. Can someone here contact the moderator and inform them about it? The code was from the overall header file in Prosilver in phpbb 3.2 installation package. So it's still valid for this board and was locked by mistake. Please inform the moderators and unlock my thread above. Thanks.
