You need to update config.php and set $acm_type to memcache assuming your host has the PHP memcache extension installed.

That is memcache. (?)

But what about memcached?

PHP has memcached activated and I have activated mamcached in cpanel. Where to insert my memcached settings? In config?
This is the socket I need to point to: /home/myusername/.applicationmanager/memcached.sock

Yes, that was for memcache, I'd never heard of the other one so thought it was a typo. What's wrong with the default cache?

Note: I see now they are essentially the same they've just been named differently by the authors.

As a minor feature addition, phpBB now also supports Memcached caching.

In config.php add

Code: Select all

define('PHPBB_ACM_MEMCACHED_HOST', 'unix:///home/myusername/.applicationmanager/memcached.sock');
define('PHPBB_ACM_MEMCACHED_PORT', 0);

Thank you so much!

$acm_type = 'memcached';

define('PHPBB_ACM_MEMCACHED_HOST', 'unix:///home/skeiorg/.applicationmanager/memcached.sock');
define('PHPBB_ACM_MEMCACHED_PORT', 0);

Site is still working after settings was applied. Anyway to test if the caching is working?

ACP panel - "Help for Phpbb"
Shows:
version: Php 7.2.1
sapi: litespeed
extensions: memcached
acm_type: memcached

Hmmm.
The site is about 3-4 times faster when using standard phpbb cache.

Hehe.

Strange, I thought memcached would be awesome.

Does phpbb default cache cache the database?

No, phpBB is awesome. Some values in the database are cached, for example those in the config table.
