Can one of you oldtimers (read: trustworthy user) PM me

Post by SeriousOldschool »

I have a question regarding installation.

I have put PHPBB on my server and finished the first phase of installation. I have a question regarding the layout of my site and it's mostly regarding how I installed PHPbb and if I did it wrong. Nothing freaky.

:? :?

You would be far better posting your actual question in viewforum.php?f=556 That way you will get the help you need.

1) I have ADD and I am trying not to get overwhelming lists/urls and data I don't need BECAUSE it confuses me

2) I find the majority of the posts ramble on and that confuses me.

I need concise answers so I can fix my problem and move along. Please give short answers.

fair enough, now do the same for us.
what problem, exactly , are you having with the install.
be specific.
according to that link you have it installed properly but it is just disabled from the admin panel.
by the way, many of us here are 60+

ok, (I am 66 and live on phpbb and cookies for the pain. ;) )

1. click on the login link on the right hand side of the menu bar.

2. login with your admin credentials that you created when you installed the board.

3. once logged in, you click on the link at he bottom of the page to go to the admin panel.

4. you click on "board settings" in the left hand menu.

5.check the place that says " Disable Board" to no.

6. click on the link in the top right corner that says "board index" and you will see your board.

you will then need to go back to the admin panel and create your forums etc.

luck,

Do you have access to the database vis phpMyAdmin (or similar)?

When these children are done playing (I am 73), you can run this SQL. Here's how - Executing SQL Queries in phpMyAdmin

In phpMyAdmin, run the following, which will create an admin user named Admin1 with a password of admin. From that point you should be able to get into the ACP.

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_users (user_type, group_id, username, username_clean, user_regdate, user_password, user_email, user_lang, user_style, user_rank, user_colour, user_posts, user_permissions, user_ip, user_birthday, user_lastpage, user_last_confirm_key, user_post_sortby_type, user_post_sortby_dir, user_topic_sortby_type, user_topic_sortby_dir, user_avatar, user_sig, user_sig_bbcode_uid, user_jabber, user_actkey, user_newpasswd) VALUES (3, 5, 'Admin1', 'admin1', 0, '21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3', '[email protected]', 'en', 1, 1, 'AA0000', 1, '', '', '', '', '', 't', 'a', 't', 'd', '', '', '', '', '', '');
Change your table prefix if it is not phpbb_

See Executing SQL Queries in phpMyAdmin if you are unfamiliar with running database queries.

As soon as you have done this, use the temporary admin account to change the details on the original admin account, then delete the temporary account.
This is because:
  1. anyone could use that account to log in to your board if you didn't change the password.
  2. this temporary user has not been fully set up (e.g. it is not a member of the "Registered users" group, so it won't have normal access to your forums).
To remove the account you will first need to remove ???founder??? status from it: ACP > USERS AND GROUPS tab > Manage Users > Admin1 > Overview > Founder = No
I can stop all your spam. I can upgrade or update your Board. PM or email me. (Paid support)

If this is a new one-click install, it would be easier to do a new install with the files from here rather than chase the problem.
