So the short answer is: Yes and no.
It's quite easy to adjust the CSS so that attachments show side-by-side, but you'd either need to:
A) Choose a maximum number that can appear side by side before breaking onto a new line, OR:
B) Choose a maximum width that inline attachments can be
The reason is because we need to account for oversized attachments (eg: Huge images) that end-users upload, and force their width values so they don't fill the whole topic space and can sit side by side.
