phpbb3.2.2 is slow

Post by frnksttrhn » Mon Jan 22, 2018 12:12 pm

LS
My forum : phpbb3.2.2
http://arnhemseluitjes.net/luitforum

is loading very slow.
I asked my host: 100webspaces.com about that. Theirs suggestion:
I suggest you implement a caching system and additionally you can revise the result of a speed test at

https://developers.google.com/speed/pag ... ab=desktop

and follow the suggestions in order to reduce the loading speed for your website.
But I heard that phpBB3.2.2 has an exellent cache system.

Anny suggestions about what I can do to make the forum faster loading?
Frank

Yes the phpBB cache works well, somebody reported the other day his board runs 3-4 times quicker than when using the party cache he was trying.

It’s not that slow to me, maybe a second to load the index. If your host can’t sort their own servers out then it would be a good idea to find a better host. Did you install 3.2.2 or is it an update? I personally haven’t noticed any speed differences from 3.1 upwards.

Mick
I updated from 3.2.2

The host suggested:
In this case you should revise your application settings and configure that cache options thus you can reduce the processes running and queries generated to database.
Is that possible?
If Yes, how?

There’s nothing wrong with phpBB’s speed or caching out of the box. I think you’re being palmed off, contact them again and ask for level two support. You could also ask for the server error logs, they may give you an idea as to what’s happening.

Edit: Also ask them if they’ve installed varnish or cloudflare lately while you’re there.

Turn on debug by editing the config.php file within the root of your forum.

Maybe he used the automatic installer. I saw that some automatic installers have a lot more queries then the original phpBB. So that would explain it...

That was how to, the lines existing or not is really immaterial however, this line still seems to be there

@define('DEBUG', true);

PS you could have answered if you had a correction to add.

I have no idea what this all means but when I first installed the phpBB software on my host server it was incredibly slow.
After I blew up my website and I was talking to their tech people he suggested I switch from the windows based program I chose on their server to the linux based one.
Like I said..this is all above my pay grade but my sight loads incredibly faster now.

I had no correction to add. I was just surprised by your answer because I looked for those lines a couple of years ago (I think) and couldn't find them - so I looked again just now to make sure. (BTW, I was hoping you would have recognised the joke in my answer and not take it so seriously).

My host suggested this:
From what I can see at the moment the most of the waiting time is coming from the following elements which is trying to be loaded with your site --> http://arnhemseluitjes.net/luitforum/cr ... 26ad066b4f and since you have opened a topic in the forum of the developers of the 'phpbb' system you should ask them if you can stop the cron-task and if the 'phpbb' system requires it is there a way to optimize it.
