Updating from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2 time out?

Post by JoniW »

I am asking my host via chat to increase the time out, time to 3 times longer than it is. He seemed to forgot who he was working for and asked me who my host was..... duh.
He increased it for one hour. Didn't help, unless I need to dump the install folder first??

Please describe your problem. in starting the update, I keep receiving a time out notice after just starting the update.

The installer detected a timeout
The installer has detected a timeout, you may try to refresh the page, which may lead to data corruption. We suggest that you either increase your timeout settings or try to use the CLI.

check your config.php file and make sure it says mysqli and not mysql

then try again.
did you replace all the old files with new ones (except the config.php file ) before you tried updating the database? if not, do so.

This is not the problem at all.

$dbms = 'mysqli';

Hi rocketjedi,

Have you tried the modifications indicated in this thread?

I had the same issue, and applying the first two patches AND using phpbb CLI was the only way for me to complete the upgrade.

Just to confirm the first two patches solved the issue for me. Did not have to use the CLI however.

Pls apply the last patch in that list too, it's all about attachments. ;)

ill give it a shot although The reason why I haven't tried those is because i was not receiving those errors. Last time I upgraded half my topics had empty polls in them for no reason.

Just to be clear, is the full package the database only update? I downloaded it and can't see one single config.php file in all 3 file folders. I see config.sample.yml. I've no idea what that is. But I don't see the usual config file.

you must not have downloaded the full package. there are a lot more than three folders in it.
this is the full package: https://www.phpbb.com/files/release/phpBB-3.2.2.zip

and here are the instructions:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... ating-32x/

follow those exactly and in order and you should have no problems.
you will find the blank config.php file in there but you should remove it when doing an update anyway.
check your existing config.php file. make sure it says mysqli instead of mysql

luck,
robert

I downloaded the 3.2.2 full package from the main page of phpbb.com. I would think that's correct?
When I downloaded and unziped, I get 3 main folders each with files & folders included. Also my forum requests only the database file to be updated. This is the message I am seeing:

ncomplete update
We noticed that the last update of your phpBB installation hasn’t been completed. Visit the database updater, ensure Update database only is selected and click on Submit. Don't forget to delete the "install"-directory after you have updated the database successfully.

Release announcement
Please read the release announcement for the latest version before you continue your update process, it may contain useful information. It also contains full download links as well as the change log.

How to update your installation with the Automatic Update Package
The recommended way of updating your installation listed here is only valid for the automatic update package. You are also able to update your installation using the methods listed within the INSTALL.html document. The steps for updating phpBB3 automatically are:

Go to the phpBB.com downloads page and download the "Automatic Update Package" archive.

Unpack the archive.

Upload the complete uncompressed "install" and "vendor" folders to your phpBB root directory (where your config.php file is).

Once uploaded your board will be offline for normal users due to the install directory you uploaded now present.

Now start the update process by pointing your browser to the install folder.

You will then be guided through the update process. You will be notified once the update is complete.

Thanks lumpy! OMG there are way for file in the link you sent me. I am going to follow your instructions. Right now though, my forum is has the modified version of we_universal that's been tinkered with in the style board. Should I deactivate it? Weirdly enough, prosilver has 55 users and we_universal has 1.

as long as that style is updated to a 3.2.x style there shouldn't be any problem but it might be a good idea to deactivate it until you are done.
