Install loop on macOS 10.13.3

Post by Wod » Sat Mar 03, 2018 9:40 am

Hi,

I'm trying to install 3.2.2 but not having a lot of luck. After filling out the second screen (with the database details) and clicking install it kicks me back to the first screen. There is no indication of errors - or if there are it happens too fast for my eyes. Are there logs of the install somewhere? There are no errors in my apache log.

Version 3.2.2
MySQL Version 5.7.21
Followed the install guide - ran the chmods on config.php etc
Set up a new database and new user with ALL permissions and verified I could connect from the command line

Without a solid error to work on I'm pretty in the dark here. 8-)

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,
Wod!

How have you done the server set up?
I run MAMP with no problems

It's MySQL Version 5.7.21, Apache 2.4.8, MacOS 10.13.3. phpinfo() seems fine. Webserver is fine. MySQL is fine. I'm really surprised there is no log file for the install. This could literally save me weeks of floundering and debugging!

I'm currently trying to hook up XDebug so I can generate a trace of the install to work out what the heck it's doing. Anyone got a better idea, I'm all ears!

Thanks,
Wod.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion - I've applied the fixes in that thread and sadly my issues remains. I'll be sure to post a solution in there if it turns out to be phpbb code related.

I couldn't see this file though:

Code: Select all

phpBB/includes/functions_posting.php
However it really doesn't look like it would be related to install. My guess is the installer writes that file perhaps.

That is a standard file in the downloaded zip.

Unless you know exactly how to do it, setting up all of the separate server components to talk to each other isn't easy. MAMP does the whole lot for you in one click with all the parts set up correctly. I'd try that first.

Sorry, yes.

You were right, there is something fishy with the php/apache/mysql setup. I downloaded MAMP and now it's 'working', but still failing: at least I'm getting an error message now:

Code: Select all

Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
Access denied for user 'phpbb'@'localhost' to database 'phpbb_phpbb3'
I created the database and user as per the instructions on this page:

https://wiki.phpbb.com/Practical.Runnin ... _localhost

I.e:

Code: Select all

CREATE DATABASE phpbb_phpBB3;
CREATE USER 'phpbb'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password'; GRANT ALL ON phpbb.* TO 'phpbb'@'localhost';
I double-checked the username/password tried with and without the non-standard port 8889.

I verified that I can connect to the db on the command line, e.g. this works:

Code: Select all

/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin/mysql -u phpbb -p
The password challenge comes up, I type the password and the mysql prompt appears.

Now I've just realised that there is a typo (of course!) in the script above, it should be:

Code: Select all

GRANT ALL ON phpbb_phpBB3.* TO 'phpbb'@'localhost';
I fixed that and now I've got a working forum! Next stage for me is to convert an old version 2 forum....

Thank you!
Wod
