Users Banned Need Help Bad

Post by Paula Joann » Wed Apr 18, 2018 4:38 pm

This just started last night when registered prior to last night try to log in the get a message saying their IP address is permanently banned. I know it is not true as I have 3 accounts on the board, one as admin, one as a global mod and one as a user, the user is the only one to get this you are banned message. I have checked the database and it has only one IP banned, I tried to purge the cache but can't find it in the ACP.

I am using pphPB 3.2.2

To purge cache it should be right on the main page when you login to the ACP under "Resynchronise or reset statistics." Under the Board Statistics table.

It will say Purge the Cache and to the right of that you click "Run Now"

When purging the cache you must also ensure that your cache directory is set for 777 permissions.

Saying that, banning IP's is relatively useless as countless people will tell you due to bots using proxies and if the ban table is too large you will have performance issues on your forum.

Did you use wildcards in the banned IP address?

The database has not been changed and there are no entries in the ban list that I did not ban

All non-Admin users the registered before today are getting the following message.

Information

You have been permanently banned from this board.

Please contact the Board Administrator for more information.

A ban has been issued on your IP address.

I checked logs and databases, and outside of the four I did, no one has been banned. I don't know what to do beyond what I have done.

I do need help, I have the site locked down right now, but if I don't fix it soon, I will lose members.

remove the bans that you set. purge the cache and check again. you probably made some type of mistake when you put in the ips or the domain names etc.

also, it does no good to ban anyone by IP address. they will just get a new IP address the next time they reboot their router or for many other reasons.
and/or the IP address that person used the day you banned it could wind up being the IP address of a user you do not want banned etc.

Fixed one of the people I let into my site, somehow had it set if he got banned it would trigger the event. Now I don't ban anyone I deleted their records from the database.

Thanks for the help

That does not make sense. Had what set? Trigger what event?
