No route found for "GET /install/app.php"

Hi-
I FTP'd the Vendor and Install files to the root directory of phpbb.

When I "point my browser" instead of the hoped for "Install" tab, I see this message:

No route found for "GET /install/app.php"(from "https://www.MYWEBSITE.com/adm/index.php ... sion_check")

Any ideas? Thanks!

Better use this method

oof. So a complete re-install?

Here's a question.

I just (this week) purchased webhosting with Bluehost, and the latest version phpbb they have for their (so-called) "One-Click-Install of phpbb is v. 3.2.0.

They told me that was the latest. Of course now I see the notice that I need to upgrade to 3.2.2.

Since I have not even launched my board, would it be advisable to simply delete it entirely and just install 3.2.2 new?

There is nothing at that link telling you to do a "complete re-install".
It is telling you to replace the files and and run the database updater. That is not a "complete re-install".

On the other hand, if you have not added any new forums or topics to your board, it is certainly easier to start from scratch than to run an updater.

Thanks. I guess I was confused because I was trying to do the upgrade that just put in the new parts. Whereas this seems to be a big overwrite of what's already installed..
Sorry for the tech-heavy description there. :-))

I think I will take your advice and just start from scratch.

Why not practise a update now?
In a couple of weeks there is a update to 3.2.3 and better practise with a new board than with a live board I think.

Interesting.

I just spoke with Tech support at Bluehost and they said that their server won't allow 3.2.2 but in a week I'll be able to upgrade.

Maybe this is why, because 3.2.3 is coming out.

And yeah, the thought of upgrading a live board terrifies me.

You are confusing "replacing files" with "install".

"Install" is to create the database that holds all of your board data.
Every phpBB board starts with the same files, so replacing all of the files (other than the config.php which points to the database) is not a drastic step.

You should ALWAYS use the files from here, host supplied files (one-clicks and updates) generally have issues as can be seen in many topics on here and we can’t fully support such installations.

Why would that be? Don't the hosts get their files from here?

BTW- the "one-click" didn't work and they told me it often doesn't so they installed it for me.

I’m not sure where they get the files from but they butcher them to make them one-click (phpBB does not make such installers) plus there are very often features disabled such as database backup etc. Then, after you can’t get your board to work properly, they can’t support it and tell their users to come here for help and we can’t fully support those kinds of installs as it isn’t our software. Hence, only use the files from here.

I just tried this. Everything seemed to be going along fine then suddenly it says I have to stop. My host won't allow the install. And in an earlier part of this discussion I mentioned that Bluehost said that 3.2.2 can't be installed on their server. And they advised me to wait a week, which I should have done.

I hope I haven't destabilized things. I returned the cache file I had removed. (there was no vendor file)

In any case. I'm getting conflicting advice between phpbb and Bluehost on what to do here.

What was the text that say you have to stop?
My host won't allow the install.
Why ?

The cache folder you mean I think?
And without a vendor folder there is no board??

Sorry, I didn't note it exactly, something about a config problem and that I need to contact my host. I clicked continue, a couple seconds later, same message. Then I remembered them saying their server won't allow this version.
My host won't allow the install.
Why ?
They (the tech support person) said they were not certain of 3.2.2's stability. I heard this from several of them, said in different ways. When I was initially installing and having problems with their 1-click thing, I asked why they didn't offer the latest version. Then a couple time more when I really thought I needed to upgrade and could n't figure out why nothing worked.

yes, folder.
And without a vendor folder there is no board??
My mistake. It's there.
