Categories and forums not showing on index

Post by x-rated »

Hello,
i have just installed clean new test installation of phpbb 3.2.3 rc1 (and 3.2.2 before), everything went well, no errors or warnings during whole process, but after installation had finished, there is no "Your first category" and "Your first forum" showing on index page. I can see it in ACP, i can create another category and forum, but again - not showing on index page, just "This board has no forums.".
I tried whole process again with different php version, but same result (7.1.16 x 7.2.4).
It is freshly installed forum with no settings changed, so its quite strange.
Do you have any ideas why is this happening? :?

You need to set the forum permissions @ permissions tab :)

Considering you're missing the MCP tab, perhaps the admin account wasn't set up properly. Are you in Global Moderators and Registered Users?

the MCP would not show up in that spot.

you don't see any forums because you don't have permissions to see them.
go to the admin panel users and groups. look up your username, in the drop down select groups.
make sure you are in the registered user group, the admin group and the global moderator group.

how did you install? did you do a host one click install or did you use the files from here?

Yes there should be an MCP link on that index page, up where that ACP link is, if the admin account was setup properly.

files from here https://download.phpbb.com/pub/release/ ... .3-RC1.zip

i did another installation with same result, no categories & forums on index page and no MCP link

even though it says "The installer has finished successfully…", there is some "Skip “installer.install_database.set_up_database” task" - what does this mean? it is not marked as warning or error, just something at the bottom after installation process has finished

notice.png

something is definitely broken - i changed my account password via acp but when i wanted to log in with new password, it will not log me in (no error, no message, just still logged out)
when i want to log in with old password, it says incorrect password :shock:

This is very odd, are you sure your host has has all the credentials to run phpBB 3.2? You could try installing on a local server and see how that goes. See Knowledge Base - Installing and Setting Up Your Own Web Server.

Yup. Your admin user is not a member of any group. Does the same thing happen when you install the stable 3.2.2 ?

On different webhosting it works fine, after installation there is "Your first forum" and MCP link, but that message "Skip “installer.install_database.set_up_database” task" appears during install process too, so probably this is not a problem.

But what can be wrong with Snackhost webhosting, do you have any ideas? I will ask webhosting support too.

btw there is no MCP link probably because there is no forum on index page

My immediate reaction is if it’s fine elsewhere and it’s not on your host then there’s the problem.

As a test, try running this SQL on your 3.2.3RC-1 database. Backup the user_group table first:

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_user_group (group_id, user_id, group_leader, user_pending) VALUES (2, 2, 1, 0) ;
INSERT INTO phpbb_user_group (group_id, user_id, group_leader, user_pending) VALUES (4, 2, 1, 0) ;
INSERT INTO phpbb_user_group (group_id, user_id, group_leader, user_pending) VALUES (5, 2, 1, 0) ;
UPDATE phpbb_users SET group_id = 2 WHERE user_id = 2;
I can stop all your spam. I can upgrade or update your Board. PM or email me. (Paid support)

this is what I was talking about earlier . there is no MCP link on a page unless there is a forum or a topic on the page.
