The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.

Post by lavalamp213 »

I am getting this message almost every time I submit a post and sometimes when I am administering the board:
The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.

When I submit again, it works.

My board is still under construction so it's just me having this issue as there is no one else.

Any ideas what this could be?

Hi lavalamp213!

Others had this problem with earlier versions of phpbb, in most cases it was related to cookie settings being wrong.

ACP -> cookie domain
Make sure the domain has a leading . (dot) infront of the domain name. i.e. .example.com

Begin with that, but there could well be other settings being wrong as well...

Edit: And of course, clear/purge the cache

Thanks. The leading dot was there, so that wasn't it.
I cleared the cache and tried a couple of posts and it seems okay.

By "clearing the cache" I mean I clicked on "delete all board cookies" at the bottom of the board.
Is there some other thing within the ACP for doing this that I should know?

You'll have to purge the cache in the ACP
Login on forum frontpage, click on link to administration control panel (ACP), login again.
While in ACP
Under the General tab, find "Purge The Cache" click on the button "Run Now"

Okay, found it! Thank you. I have to learn to look around more.

Did that, made a few test posts and things seem okay.

I will come back here if the problem continues. thanks again.

So, the problem came back.

This time I was testing out registration. I was logged out and trying to register. I completed the form with username etc, and when I clicked submit I got the message again. I clicked submit again, and it worked.

EDIT: And again just now while I was in the ACP. Exact same thing. Submit, ERROR message, Submit again, everything fine.

EDIT: I will stop this update,, but now it seems to be happening all the time.

Between the purge and the problem coming back I did install some extensions and deleted a couple of disabled ones. Today I have been mostly working with extensions, successfully.

Do you use http or https in your board link? I look at your board with the link you supplied (http) and I see cookie issues, using https the cookies are ok.

I use https.

And now I remember something. late last night I was working on SEO setting with bluehost and google analytics.

I had to verify with google etc. Everything went smoothly.
