New user, lame questions

Post by alex4orly »

Hello,

Just installed my new forum into my website (I am a retired web designer living in a retirement village) and after trying to find answers in the documentation and looking through the php source, I can't figure it out... So here are my questions
1) In the forum here, there are multiple groups for forums : General, Support Forum, Extension Forum .... How can I do that on my forum page?
2) I want on the post page to have "Signature"unchecked by default and "Notify me" check by default. How do I do that?
3) As the Moderator, I want to always get an email when a resident is posting a question, how do I set that as default?

Thanking you in anticipation...

Cheers

You need to go to the FTP and find includes/functions_user.php. In there find 'user_notify' and change it from a 0 to a 1. This will make all new users get notifications by default unless they turn it off.

Keep in mind that once you update phpBB you need to reapply the setting.

You may want to read my signature on a few extensions that can prevent spam, or just use the question option for spam control.

Stevemaury,

I tried to do step 3 - Moderators and it seems I damaged something...
Is there anywhere a step-by-step instruction set?
After I did, I can't recall what...

New users registering to the forum no longer get an email message,
nor do I see anywhere a message to me to accept them, they register and immediatly they can log in...

What have I done?
How can I fix this?

Cheers

Thanks Janus,

But how do I get back the email registration to the user and for me (the moderator) to approve the new user?

Thanks
