[Split] 3.2.0 and Mobile view

Post by semtal » Sat May 26, 2018 4:37 pm

Is there a device that allows pc, mac users to see what something looks like using the phpbb mobile device or tapatalk? i never use my phone for that and have had one user requestit as it's meant to be better suited for them. That doesn't say much for me as I'm aware of phpbb mobile support is active. i'd just like to see what all the fuss is about. :)

oops, sorry for the necropost!

Thats ok, I split it👍🏼

A lot of desktop browsers have an agent switcher, I’m certain FF does but whether it does what you need and what devices are pre-loaded I don’t know, have a search on the web. Also you can squish up the page on your desktop and it will force phpBB in to “mobile mode”.

f12 simply opens the code inspector it has nothing to do with seeing a page in a different size.

It does, the icon doesn't stand out much though... it's the mobile icon above the rules box.

Clicking it puts it into Responsive Design Mode, just as "CTRL+Shift+M" will do.

I'll be damned. I use the inspector all the time but have never noticed that.

I stand corrected.

I should have explained it more really!

Not sure how it works in Firefox but in chrome you can select the type of device too and also do custom size ones

I don't think switching the useragent is going to force phpBB into a mobile mode as far as I'm aware, phpBB doesn't sniff UAs.

Changing the UA, or using Dev Tools?

Reason I ask is because I have an extension that will show an icon and a message in your post on whether you're using a mobile device or not. And I have tried many mobile device UAs and the layout of the forum never changed. I even have my own custom UA that inserts my own mobile device code as a form of Sig. You'll see it at the bottom of my post's on my site. Post made via Drone using encrypted SSH, L2TP, P25, Astro, Provoice-ESK, Tetra, VSLEP, DECT 6.0, WPA2-PSK with a dash of SSL

And nope! I just tried this UA on my site and the site didn't go into "mobile" mode.

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.0.4; Galaxy Nexus Build/IMM76B) AppleWebKit/535.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/18.0.1025.133 Mobile Safari/535.19

phpBB doesn't use the useragent (there have been some responsive styles for 3.0 using UA detection), but simply checks the page width in your browser window and changes the displayed content. Check responsive.css in your styles folder

I just saw someone from the UK try that UA on my site and got blocked. I can only use the ancient UA since I'm whitelisted.
