Timeout is a hosting issue, NOT a phpBB issue. The software (ANY software) has no control over how a host sets their timeout.

Godaddy may be a big company, but being big has no guarantee of skill ability or knowledge. If you search for Godaddy on here you will find numerous occasions where their settings have caused problems.

So you dont like the truth, you delete it. :roll:
If you think what I put was wrong why didnt you answer it?
Ill tell you, because you cant, you know what I put is true but you dont want people to know this because they will go elsewhere.

Well as you said theres lots of issues with people using phpbb and godaddy, so obviously it must be godaddy :roll:

As regards the timeout, it doesnt have to be the host as you say, it depends how efficient your update script is. Yes Godaddy maybe have a shorter timeout, however you should be able to adjust the script to accommodate this since your all such professionals. But no, its just easier to blame the host.

I suspect youll delete this post too, since you cant answer the truth.

also, post the contents of your config.php file leaving out the username and password.

Code: Select all

<?php
// phpBB 3.0.x auto-generated configuration file
// Do not change anything in this file!
$dbms = 'mysqli';
$dbhost = 'localhost';
$dbport = '';
$dbname = 'bettis0404_bb1';
$dbuser =
$dbpasswd =
$table_prefix = 'bb_';
$acm_type = 'file';
$load_extensions = '';

@define('PHPBB_INSTALLED', true);
// @define('DEBUG', true);
// @define('DEBUG_EXTRA', true);
Please let me know if anything is wrong with the above!

the error is tellling you that the table does not exist. it is looking for the table bb_config

check your database using phpmyadmin from your hosting control panel. make sure that the table prefix is correct in your config.php file.
you currently have that set to bb_

see what the actual table prefix is in the database and edit the config.php file accordingly.
upload it back to the server and clear the cache folder and try again.

Ok so in phpmyadmin it has the bettis0404_bb1 tab on the side but when clicked it states "No tables found in database".

As the board was fully fuctioning before the update the update process has removed it?

What would the next step be now?

there is no way in the update process that the database can be deleted.

the only way a database can be deleted is by you or your host deleting it on purpose.

contact your host.

also, the very first instruction in how to update says to make backups of the files and the database. did you do that? if so, you can simply import that database backup file into the database on the server via phpmyadmin.

if not, then you have to contact the host to restore your database from their backups.

I did make a back up and have now uploaded it via phpmyadmin.

Going back to /install, the update button doesn't time-out anymore but now says "No valid update directory was found, please make sure you uploaded the relevant files." So what is the correct method to update the board if the steps in the php link to update does not work?

Right, it has finally updated! Somehow the database had been deleted and that was the problem. Thank you for your help on this one.

Most of my mods have disappeared though unfortunately and background & header pictures, tabs at the top have all gone. Any way to get it back to exactly how it was or does this have to be all re-done? Hoping not...

how did you make those changes to the header etc.? if you edited prosilver then you will have to do them again.
however, you should not be editing prosilver directly. you can either use a custom style or create your own custom style by making a copy of prosilver and renaming it.

as to your "mods" being gone. if you mean extensions then they should still be there. if you really mean MODS as in MODs for phpbb 3.0 then they would not work with 3.2.x anyway so you will need to find extensions to replace them .

I’d be surprised if any of them worked

phpBB 3.2 is not compatible with 3.0 and most of the previous files will need to be removed prior to upgrading
