What is Gzip ?

Hi, i want to ask what is Gzip in phpbb ?
i try it find on google.. but no accurate.

Why it's good to have this turned on ?

It reduces response time, because files are compressed, but it increases server CPU usage.

Note, it can also be turned on server side too, if both phpBB and server are on it can cause problems, you should check with your host to see if it's turned on there. It's fine just leaving it to your host if it's turned on on the server.

Also keep in mind the Gzip Level. The highest is not always the best for performance.....

I was just going to say exactly this. In my case, the host has it turned on server side. Unbeknownst to me, when I enabled compression in the forum all hell broke lose. So when I checked in with my host it was indeed enabled server side.
