How to upgrade to 3.2 from 3.1

Post by garfy »

Do I just overwrite all the files?
Do I need to disable plugins? And delete them?
What can go wrong?

I have to update database 3 time to get it to 100

Now I was updating plugins and my site stopped working

are you sure you uploaded all the relevant files? double check to make sure. sometimes all the files do not get uploaded.

how are you uploading the files? are you using a real ftp program like filezilla ?

this did not help at all

I asked my host to use backup from yesterday to back up the site....
I hope it will not break....
I think the extension pages destroye my site......

Very bad experience guys....this should go smoother.....it is a site i had for 10 years......
and db is so huge I cant even export it via phpmyadmin......
very dissapointed
and at the same time you completely stoped giving support for 3.1 and with 3.2 upgrade I destroyed my site.....

The 3.2 upgrade didn't break your site.

You said an extension did. If you're going to put blame anywhere it's not fair to say it's phpBB's fault if it was an extension.

Did you test offline before you started?
Did you check each extension was ok for 3.2.2 before you started?
It's been documented on here for many months that support for 3.1.x would be ending so it's no surprise.
A white screen/500 error will have the cause in the site logs so you should look in there as to what the problem is. It's likely to just be a badly uploaded file or you need to clear the cache as you have a mix of old and new files being used. Don't jump the gun until you do due diligence on what you're about to attempt.

I lost my site of 12 years.....because you force people to upgrade.....and extension are probably not checked....
how can an extension like pages....which is very popular break the site?
and even that script to disable all extensions is not working....

I just lost my site thanks to the bugs....I did everyhing exctly like it was written in manual....

You were advised to read the above which clearly says about checking if your extensions will work with phpBB 3.2.x and also says to make backups.

If you had done that it would be unlikely that you would have problems updating but should you have made a mistake you would have the backups to revert to.

You're not forced to upgrade. There are still people running 2.0 and support for that ended over 10 years ago. You can stay on 3.1 if you want to but we have to draw the line on support time, just like every other company in the world with everything they've ever made.

So now your host has done a restore and it's not working and that's our fault as well?
