Installation of phpBB3 fails: mysqli syntax error.

Post by JadedDragoon » Sat Aug 11, 2018 6:14 pm

I'm setting this up on a VPS running Ubuntu Server 16.04 with Apache 2.4.18, PHP7.0.30, and MariaDB 10.3.8. The phpBB version I am attempting to install is 3.2.2. PHP scripts are executed by FCGId and run as the user that owns the phpBB files.

Support Request Template
What version of phpBB are you using? phpBB 3.2.2
What is your board's URL? https://bos.scrapironcity.net/forums
Who do you host your board with? self hosted
How did you install your board? I used the download package from phpBB.com
What is the most recent action performed on your board? Fresh Install
Is registration required to reproduce this issue? No
Do you have any MODs installed? No
Do you have any extensions installed? No
What styles do you currently have installed? fresh install
What language(s) is your board currently using? english
Which database type/version are you using? MariaDB
What is your level of experience? Experienced with PHP and phpBB
What actions did you take (updating your board; installing a MOD, style or extension; etc.) prior to this problem becoming noticeable? None, fresh install.
Please describe your problem. I receive the below errors when running the installation script. From my research, this indicates that there is a missing closing parenthesis in the SQL syntax passed to mysqli. However, I've been unable to find anyone else having the same problem online... which leads me to believe this is not an error in phpBB 3.2.2 itself.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is your database using an auto_increment_offset of something other than 1?

Yes, it's part of a Galera cluster. Galera changes the offset depending on the number of servers in the cluster.

Ok apparently, I don't see.

This is from 2014 saying he has phpBB (3.1.x) working on Galera cluster. The issue linked above is from 2008 saying phpBB (3.0.x) doesn't work correctly if auto_increment_offset and auto_increment_increment are not both set to 1. So... do Galera clusters (which change both auto_increment_offset and auto_increment_increment) work with phpBB or not?

We don't support installing into a clustered database environment.
