phpBB 3.1.10 to 3.2.0 - No input file specified.

Post by Traction »

Support Request Template
What version of phpBB are you using? phpBB 3.1.10
What is your board's URL? http://www.knightsrealm.us/forum
Who do you host your board with? GoDaddy
How did you install your board? It was running 3.1.10 just fine, then I got phpBB-3.1.10_to_3.2.2
What is the most recent action performed on your board? Update from a previous version
Is registration required to reproduce this issue? No
Do you have any MODs installed? No
Do you have any extensions installed? No
What version of phpBB3 did you update from? phpBB 3.1.10 was on there, trying to update to 3.2.2
What styles do you currently have installed? I believe Aero Green. It may be a prosilver variation, I hope
What language(s) is your board currently using? English
Which database type/version are you using? MySQL version 5.5
What is your level of experience? Had boards for over 15 years, I'd say I'm pretty good
What actions did you take (updating your board; installing a MOD, style or extension; etc.) prior to this problem becoming noticeable? Tried to update
Please describe your problem. After deleting all of the files (except config.php, images/, files/, store, ext/), I uploaded the ones in "phpBB-3.1.10_to_3.2.2" (unzipped in the root, obviously), pointed my forum to "/install/app.php/update" and it said "No input file specified." Now, first I realized that it had no .htaccess file in the root, so I put one in that I downloaded from a separate install zip. It didn't matter. It still says the same error. I'd imagine that the problem may be in here (or maybe the file permissions?). I really hope the problem isn't on GoDaddy's end. Or maybe it could be because of Aero Green?

Note: I have two forum boards. This one is a knockaround board that I use for testing. I have them since I don't want to test updating on my main forums "Zap!" and risk them going offline. Once this problem is fixed, the main forums will be updated next.

I clearly botched this. I didn't "Deactivate all styles except for prosilver" which is required. Is it possible to fix this? Then again, this might not be related to my problem.

/knightsrealm/knightsrealm/forum/app.php was not found on this server
Why are there two knightsrealm folders? Also, what is the length of your config.php file?
I can stop all your spam. I can upgrade or update your Board. PM or email me. (Paid support)

in the above post you did not say that you uploaded all new files after you deleted all the old ones ( except for the ones indicated ).

if you did not upload the new files then you could get that error message.

There's not two, only one. Where did that error message come from? I never seen it. The link to my forums are http://www.knightsrealm.us/forum

config.sys is 17 lines (counting line 13, which is blank). File size is 530.

I did (the phpBB-3.1.10_to_3.2.2 files, unzipped of course). It took like 25 minutes too.

Was I supposed to upload the full install instead?

yes, you really should go back and do this:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... upgrade31/
you may have done a mixture of the two different ways to upgrade.

Looks like you only have those files and not the whole lot, wrong package of choice that could be?

Update: After hours of deleting, uploading, and repeating the process, I finally decided I had to upload back to 3.1.10. It worked. So I did that, and I went back to square one. After that, I updated to 3.1.12, and it updated flawlessly. From here, I'll try to update to 3.2.2 in the morning.

I'm starting to think the problem is GoDaddy not liking 3.2*. I have a strong feeling something will go wrong, but wish me luck. :)

if you were upgrading from 3.0 then I gave you the wrong instructions above.

now that you are for sure at 3.1 follow those instructions I gave above. do them exactly and in order and it should work flawlessly even on godaddy.

Ok, so now I'm going from 3.1.12 to 3.2.*. I did exactly as instructed. When I point my board to /install, I no longer get an error message, but there's no button to upgrade, so I clicked on convert. For boards path I put ../forum because ../forums was the default (and my board is http://www.knightsrealm.us/forum). Now it says:

Code: Select all

Could not find path to your former board. Please check your settings and try again.
» ../forum was specified as the source path.
I'm at a loss. Was the option to install supposed to be there? Attached is a file.

For the moment, I had to downgrade to 3.1.12. It's not what I wanted, but it was better than what I had yesterday (3.1.10). I still want 3.2 though...:(

If you did exactly what was instructed than there is a button, so you did something wrong.
Probably overwrite the config.php
