Another attachments problem

Post by Mustang-man » Thu Sep 13, 2018 8:21 am

Okay, so i have done the suggested patch already, and quadruple checked it (if not more) to make sure i did it right.

But still peoples attachments are not showing up (older ones, from the previous 3.0.12 version, not 3.2.2 which i have now).

When i go into someone's post who i know had an attachment i still see it under the attachments tab, along with the accompanying text. But in the topic it's just a blank space, no placeholder (in most cases).

I've checked in the Admin CP, everything seems normal. There's only a handful of orphaned attachments, which are mostly from members who (for some reason) went through and removed all the content from their posts. All the rest are in the right place.

Filezilla has that suggested box unticked, so it's not a corrupt file issue. If i click the link in the attachments section in pic above (or in admin cp) the image still shows up (on its own page).

Any ideas?

Did you purge the cache in ACP or do you or your host use an other cache system?

Purged the cache in the forum at least three times. Have never had to do any other cache purges.

In my experience, this really is usually a problem with corrupt attachment files, especially since newly uploaded attachments seem fine.

Could you post a link to your forum and to one of the posts where this problem is appearing?

I don't have any forums publicly viewable unfortunately, but so far i've only tried to get the old attachments to work. Have tried uploading new ones but they don't work either (area where attachment should be is completely blank/empty) so it doesn't seem like a corruption issue, in my view?

Ah, I misunderstood your original post then. That sounds less like a corruption issue then.

Could you make a test forum public where we can at least see and test? It's very hard to diagnose the problem from here when we can't see what it is or how it will react different situations.

You should be able to post as a guest? I logged out and was able to post up a new topic as a guest, no password needed.

Interesting.

Just tried to delete that topic, and all i get is a blank page after i hit delete.

Maybe i need to reinstall the whole blimmen forum again.

Okay, you need to lift the permissions to view the attachment.

Is this true for the entire forum as well?

Only for every other forum, the Test forum i linked to above you just need to enter a name when you make a new topic/reply.
I've got a complicated registration system in order to try protect peoples privacy so don't want to mess with that.

As a guest you can post attachments, and i've just enabled the ability to download/view them (oops), and sure enough a post someone has made with an attachment doesn't show up. But if i edit that post, go to the attachments tab and click it, i can see it on its own page.

It's only guests that couldn't see attachments, i had it set to 'no' for downloading (viewing) files accidently. Permissions have otherwise been the same since i made the forum many years back.

Does it work with default prosilver style?

Yay! 8-)

Something so obvious i didn't think to check, but yes - all the attachments show up when using prosilver.

Now to figure out why they aren't working on the custom theme...
