Cannot log in to my own board

Post by Bruce Banner » Thu Sep 27, 2018 6:35 pm

Just installed a 3.2 board, corrected the cookie settings (put a . before the domain name), went to the index page, logged out, tried logging back in again and, surprise surprise, no luck. I was just brought back to the index page with the options to log in or register. This happened to me about a year ago when I first experimented with installing a 3.2 board. Someone then told me it was something to do with cookies. The issue was never resolved. I never had this particular problem with a 3.1 board, only with 3.2. I'm gonna delete the board folder from the server so I can reinstall. Can someone tell me how to then log out and log back in again successfully?

Did you try a different browser? Some users reported it is a chrome browser mystery ...

ok, I registered, clicked a few links and logged out. I can log in and out with no problems.

you do NOT have a dot in front of your domain name in the cookie settings.

go do that and also change the cookie name.

but first, try this.

Damn, I thought I had. I must have changed it on my other board that I have open at the same time. Still, I could swear the first time I installed the 3.2 board I definitely did put a dot in front of the domain name and it still didn't help.

That link ya posted talks about phpMyAdmin. I don't know what that is, how to get into it, or how to run anything in it.

And what should I change the cookie name to? What's wrong with the random name it got when I installed?

EDIT: OK, I found and got into phpMyAdmin but I have no idea what to do.

OK, I'm getting there. But the link ya gave said change table prefix if it's not phpbb_ I can't remember what my table prefix is. How do I check it?

EDIT: Never mind. Found it in config.php It's phpbb_ so I don't need to change it.

EDIT: I tried clicking go but I got an error message.

" MySQL said: Documentation
#1046 - No database selected"

What should I do?

EDIT: OK, I clicked on the databases column and just clicked on the database my board's attached to. That seemed to do the trick. I've executed the query now.

The next instruction says I've got to use the temporary admin account to change the details on the original account, then delete the temporary one. What details? And why do they need to be changed? Surely the only account that would need to be changed is the temporary one, as anyone could get in through that one.

I'm guessing he sent you a query to made a new admin account.
The point of that is to let people in to their board to change their real admin account info if they've forgotten the password and the emailed one isn't working, or to allow them to change the cookie settings if they can't log in with the existing ones. Then you delete that admin account and you should be able to get in normally with your original one.

Ah, OK. Well then I don't need to even create that extra admin account at all. I thought it was necessary to fix the problem. But my problem isn't that I've forgotten my login details. It's that I just can't log out and log back in again. If I try logging out, then even with the correct login details, I'm just brought back to the index page where I can login or register.
