IPv6 address not working in Whois

Are IPv6 addresses supported in phpBB whois? Because it's not showing info on my forum.

Hmm, phpBB used to use the data from the server at whois.arin.net. It may have changed since then, maybe someone knows the latest set up.Do you see any IP information when you click on the 'i' button in a message? Have you got a test account and a link to your board if it's different to the one in your signature please?

This is what I see using the 'i' icon:

Or are you talking about something else?

Ok, I checked my test board and that's the same, it's not something I use so I never noticed it. I don't have an answer for you but I'll see what I can find.

I've spoken to another supporter and he believes it *should* be compatible with 3.2 so I had a search and found this, there are others but they're all quite old. Maybe someone else will chip in.

It's compatible with 3.2, I see no other "problems". Guess they just forgot to add in in the "Whois" function ... ?

This may be the case here for IPv6:
Multi-source Whois web interface

Static Edition of the Website has whois disabled. Please ask the RIR's own whois functionality for details.

What does that mean? That "whois" is disabled for ipv6 ?
I tried a few IP trace website's, and most of them are also not working with ipv6.
Found 2 working, and they show just the country, no more city's etc..
So they all need updates, or it will be disabled for good..?

Is this the ACP lookup for IP addresses? It's a real crapshoot and I've created a suggestion about changing it to whatismyipaddress.com which is what Xenforo uses but I was shot down. I do have an extension that shows the IP addresses next to user post's, and I modified it to query whatismyipaddress.com.

Yeps, ACP and the Whois on viewonline.php
ipv6 seems to work good on whatismyipaddress.com, so yeah.. should change to that in the phpBB function.
